Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School ofMedicine is a premier academic medical center located in the heart of Richmond.Accounting for almost half of VCUs sponsored research the School of Medicineis internationally recognized for patient care and education. VCU Schoolof Medicine comprises 18 clinical departments eight basic health sciencedepartments and 11 affiliated institutes and centers and provides preeminenteducation to physicians and scientists to improve the quality of healthcare forhumanity.
Research Technicians perform a variety ofroutine technical and administrative responsibilities in support of researchat the university. They perform duties such as the following: collectingspecimens preparing materials operating and maintaining equipment orderinglab supplies and maintaining inventory. They also assist with data analysisand report writing. They may work independently or as a member of a team. Theywork under general supervision resolving most standard issues independentlyand referring complex issues to an upperlevel manager. Technicians typicallyreport to a manager or director or may report to a department administrator. Thesuccessful candidate must be reliable have solid attention to detail bewilling to follow instructions precisely.
PositionResponsibilities:
The StravitzSanyalLiver Institute seeks a motivated Research Laboratory Technician to join theclinical research team. The job duties for this position include and are notlimited to the following
Settingup and performing experiments; interacting with students and other laboratorystaff.
Assistswith preparation of reports manuscripts and other documents.
Maintainsand orders equipment and supplies.
Helpsmonitor compliance with institutional state and federal regulatory policiesprocedures directives and mandates.
Laboratoryand instrument maintenance customer training and support.
Dailybench work involving perform advanced lab technical protocols.
Independentlyhandling and maintaining advanced instrumentation.
Data collection and input into study systems and sponsordatabase
Provide timely and courteous responses toqueries from patients faculty and sponsors.
Complete and ensure accurate effort reporting isrecorded.
Casefindingevaluation & abstraction of source documentation case report formcompletion database use & management data abstraction & organizationfor presentation/publication.
Utilizes multiple data capture/retrieval systems & interacts with varietyof health care delivery systems to identify track evaluate collate analyze& submit subject data.
Collaboratesclosely with clinical research team which may include Principal Investigator(PI) to ensure that key federal/state/local regulatory requirements arefollowed; thatinstitutional operational research objectives are met; and thatethical obligations are kept.
Develops establishes and maintains productive relationships with VCUcolleagues all customers and contacts at affiliate sites to achieve essentialresearch outcomes.
Minimum Hiring Standards:
Working knowledge of laboratory techniques including blood sample processingpipetting and instrument maintenance.
Comfortableutilizing various instruments techniques and protocols.
Accuracy precision and efficiency in work habits are required.
Must be able to use time effectively multitask work independently and bedetailoriented.
Comfortable with handling human samples.
Good computer and communication skills are necessary.
Professionalism and good interpersonal skills are required.
Ability to work in a diverse environment is required.
Relevant lab and/or clinical research experience
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a diverseenvironment.
The successful candidate must be reliable have solidattention to detail.
Significant experience in professionalexperience working in a laboratory setting specifically handling andperforming experiments on mice as part of scientific research.
Exhibits professionalism and ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team; establishing and maintain productive relationships with VCU colleagues and all customers and contacts necessary to effectively support research studies
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors advanced degree or equivalent experience in Chemistry or Biologystrongly preferred.
Experience with research and clinical trials strongly preferred.
Dangerous Goods/IATA Training preferred.
Familiarity with RedCap and Microsoft Excel preferred.
Familiarity with VCUHealth preferred.
Physicaland Cognitive Requirements:
