Director of Learning ServicesBeginning August 2025Description:The Director of Learning Services develops coordinates and implements a comprehensive academic support program for students in Kindergarten through grade nine. The Director leads the Learning Services Department supervises and evaluates the work of learning specialists in all divisions and serves as a resource to classroom teachers. The Director works collaboratively with teachers and parents to support students of strong intellectual ability high academic potential and varied learning styles. The Director of Learning Services reports to the Assistant Head of School for the Educational Program. This position is fulltime with benefits. Oncampus housing may be available.Qualifications:The Director of Learning Services understands the needs of elementary and middle school age children with varied learning profiles. The ideal candidate will have practiced for a minimum of 10 years as a learning specialist or in a similar role and will have significant academic management experience preferably in an independent school or equivalent clinical supervision experience. Broad and deep familiarity with educational psychological and neuropsychological testing is required. The Director must possess strong interpersonal skills including the proven ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues throughout the school. A masters degree in special education or a related field is required. Responsibilities include:Oversee case management for students with documented learning differencesMaintain department records including those for students approved for accommodations and teachers who work with themEnsure appropriate staffing to meet students needsPlace and schedule students with Learning SpecialistsCreate summary psychoeducational profiles for teachersManage contract process for support servicesMonitor fees for serviceRegularly review student progress with Learning SpecialistsLead weekly department meetingsRegularly observe and formally evaluate Learning SpecialistsSupport the ongoing professional development of Learning Specialists and faculty membersReview Learning Specialists reports to familiesConsult with the Director of Admission Director of Counseling Services Director of Secondary School Counseling and division heads as neededWork with Fay Schools consulting psychologist to determine appropriate accommodations for studentsConduct student assessments and refer families to outside resources as requiredPresent current research and recommend teaching methods to Learning Specialists and teachersFay School values teachers who believe in differentiated and developmentallyaligned approaches to teaching and learning integrate instructional technology understand the importance of cultural competence and are attuned to the social and emotional growth of young students.
