Job Description
South San Antonio ISD is seeking teachers and staff to fill summer school vacancies for the following programs:
End of Course Remediation/Testing @ South San HS
Extended School Year (Sped.
Emergent Bilingual @ Carrillo ES
Summer School Program dates and times will be announced at a later date
Job Title: Instructional Aide
Department:Assigned Campus
Pay Grade: $18.00
Primary Purpose:
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of a certified teacher.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Must be a High School Graduate possess a High School Diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Must be 18 years of age or older
Be eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification (South San ISD can assist with his request)
Candidates must clear a biometric (fingerprint based) check. Nonrefundable fee (approximately $50.00 paid by the employee.
Preferred
Minimum of forty eight 48 semester college hours from an accredited college or university; or Associate degree or higher
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work well with children
Ability to communicate effectively
Experience:
1 year experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory care and maintenance of equipment.
- Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Student Management
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Help supervise students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom bus and playground duty.
- Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.

- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional and audiovisual equipment
Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling squatting bending and stooping

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather); exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
