The Opportunity:
Positions assigned to this class are responsible for assisting with overall
management operations and leadership for a unit(s) having substantial
responsibility for directing or controlling program operations and are
accountable for the allocation of resources and program results. This
position may be the secondranking administrative official within an
organization. Must regularly exercise independent judgment and
discretion in work directly related to management policies or department
business operations and must have delegated authority to make
commitments that affect department operations.
Responsible for assisting in the overall management of University
Recreation Fitness Services equipment and furnishings inventory and
Chinook operations. Responsible for the training development
evaluation and supervision of associated permanent and temporary
staff. Responsible for the strategic development and management of
associated budgets staffing decisions risk management plans and
equipment inventory and discretion in developing operating and fiscal
plans for UREC closed weeks Group Fitness and Personal Training
programs Chinook and University Recreation weight rooms and furniture
and equipment replacement. Serves as the primary point of operational
and administrative contact for internal and external constituencies.
Additional Information:
This is a full time 100 FTE) permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary:
$5598.97 $6255.82 Commensurate with experience and qualifications
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelors Degree in recreation athletic administration higher education kinesiology business or relevant field and four 4 years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which includes one 1 year of supervisory experience. A Masters degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one 1 year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a yearforyear basis.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated computer software skills including the ability to use Microsoft Office programs such as: Outlook Word Excel and Access.
Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws rules policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in a relevant field.
Five years experience in fitness wellness recreation program or facility development and management.
Experience in higher education.
Experience in strategic planning formulation design implementation and tracking.
One or more nationally recognized fitness/wellness certifications for fitness instruction fitness coaching or personal training.
Experience creating/auditing administrative procedures and internal controls.
Demonstrated success in fiscal management and revenue generation for multi dimensional programs and services.
Demonstrated success in the management of personal training wellness group fitness massage mind body and/or noncredit instruction programs.
Current nationally recognized fitness certifications or other relevant certifications.
Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of recreational programs to diverse populations.
NIRSA membership and/or involvement.
