POSITION: Engine Operator 1
SALARY: $20.00$22.56
REPORTS TO:Operations Technician
LOCATION: Mt. Tolman
Basic Functions:This is a Non Exempt position.Employees at this level serve as members of a 24 two to four person engine crew. They are expected to have basic fire fighting skills and knowledge of basic fire behavior. The work involves activities related to wildland fire suppression/management/control as a firefighter on an engine helitack module or handcrew. Other related duties might involve fire prevention patrol fuels management projects and repair of and will be required to assist other Fire Management staff with various work projects such as cutting and piling vegetation operating ATVs grass seeding fencingand mowing. The nature of work is characterized by the varied nature of assignments
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must possess current fire training certificates for the following courses:ICS100 IS700 S130 S190 L180 and Standards for Survival/LCES.
- Must have a minimum of 2 seasons in fire suppression and fire management (each season includes the summer months June July August and September
- Must be able to pass a current pack test with Arduous rating rating.
- Must be Red Card qualified as a FFT2
- Possession of or the ability to obtain prior to hire a valid Washington State Drivers License employee must be insurable under the Tribes Licensing requirements.
- Must qualify for a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operators Identification Card.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard fire program requirements suppression tactics methods and procedures and skill in the use of wildland fire firefighting hand tools pumps and hoses and chainsaw sufficient to perform routine assigned fire suppression and prescribed assignment and to maintain firefighter tools and equipment.
- Basic Knowledge of fire behavior hazards and accepted fire safety practices and procedures to prevent injury and loss of life.
- Some knowledge of agency and interagency qualifications position task book requirements and certification standards
- Ability to perform duties under stressful and adverse operation conditions such as long work hours heavy workloads emergency situations adverse working and environment conditions
- Ability to operate four wheel drive pickup trucks and fire engines
- Must pass the arduous firefighter medical examination needed to take the Arduous pack test
- Must take a Pack Test and pass with an Arduous rating
- Must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical tasks in the outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must be available to work as needed beyond a 40hour workweek including weekend holidays and extended hours on weekdays
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to preemployment drug testing. In addition this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and postaccident drug testing.
TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.
If required of this position you must possess and maintain avalid Washington State drivers license and be eligible for the Tribes Vehicle Insurance. In addition this position may be subject to preemployment background clearances. If applicable these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
