About the Opportunity

Job Summary Director of Digital Engagement

Northeastern University is looking for a talented Director of Digital Engagement to lead its innovative digital strategy for storytelling and global audience engagement across digital platforms including web social and email. As a senior member of the Communications department the Director of Digital Engagement leads strategic efforts around the highprofile digital storytelling by the universitys awardwinning daily news operation (NGN) including the design and development of highpriority websites digital newsletters enterprise level social media campaigns and other communications assets across various channels to promote the university and engage with stakeholder groups and news consumers around the world.

The Director of Digital Engagement has a track record of leading digital teams in fastpaced and highly datainformed organizations and across multiple time zones. He/she/they are responsible for a team that spans multiple campuses including Oakland CA Boston MA and London England. He/she/they are responsible for maintaining brand consistency across platforms while creating a cohesive and comprehensive strategy that is tailored for each location and provides an outstanding user experience for all. The Director of Digital Engagement has a superb skillset incorporating audience engagement social listening and data analytics tools to inform strategy across enterpriseowned digital platforms. He/she/they are an innovative individual who is experienced in working alongside journalists and digital storytellers to communicate about a brand to a diverse set of target audiences.

The person in this role is highly motivated loves data and is guided by sophisticated metrics. He/she/they are ambitious about setting and meeting goals enthusiastic about leading creative teams to meet high expectations and understands the context of doing it all within a noncommercial nonprofit global organization with multiple internal and external stakeholder groups.

The Director of Digital Engagement works closely with the Executive Editor of Northeastern Global News (NGN) and the Director of Global Media Relations as well as a multimedia team of photographers and video producers. The role reports to the Vice President for Communications.

Northeastern is a global research university with 13 campuses in three countries. The universitys Communications strategy focuses on promoting the university its faculty students and community by showcasing leadership and innovation across the enterprise.

The position is primarily inperson with one optional remote day per week and is based on Northeasterns Boston campus. The position is part of the Communications division is External Affairs. Based on the nature of the work of the department the person in the role is expected to be available and responsive outside of regular business hours as crisis and opportunities can happen at any time.

Experience in higher education is neither necessary nor it is desired.

Must have:

  • 710 years of professional experience in social media and digital engagement
  • Bachelors degree (advanced degree is preferred)
  • Demonstrated track record of increasing audience engagement
  • Demonstrated track record of building and implementing datainformed and highly creative engagement strategies for social media platforms
  • Superb understanding of social media platforms and the latest trends including innovative uses as part of enterprisewide communications strategies in commercial and noncommercial industries
  • Demonstrated track record of using data analytics across digital platforms and devising datainformed ambitious and creative strategies.
  • Experience successfully managing social media and digital teams
  • Experience in crisis communication strategies that leverage digital platforms
  • Great taste and understanding of UX/UI best practices
  • Love of journalism and great storytelling
  • Experience in collaborating with storytellers including writers and multimedia professionals
  • Sense of humor
  • Lots of energy and positive attitude

With the pay range(s) shown above the starting salary will depend on several factors which may include your education experience location knowledge and expertise and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarlysituated employees already in the role.
