The Addiction Counseling program invites applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor position in an undergraduate major preparing students for licensure as a MN Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
The Department of Behavioral Health and Counseling offers two undergraduate majors to prepare students for careers in a variety of humanservice fields. The Addiction Counseling major combines foundational coursework in behavioral health (e.g. human growth and development counseling theories helping skills behavior analysis) with specific coursework in the diagnosis assessment and treatment of addictions. Successful candidates will be able to teach both foundational and addictionspecific courses as dictated by department needs and specific training.
St. Cloud State University is located in the culturally diverse city of St. Cloud with close proximity to Minneapolis/St. Paul that offers excellent opportunities for personal and professional growth. The Addiction Counseling program offers primarily daytime classes in traditional (i.e. inperson) online asynchronous and hybrid modalities. The program is housed in the department of Behavioral Health and Counseling in the College of Health and Wellness Professions.
Primary responsibilities include:
1 Teaching and developing coursework in addiction counseling including but not limited to counseling theories theories of addiction assessment and treatment of addiction psychopharmacology and ethics
2 Placement of students in appropriate internships and supervising interns in addictioncounseling placements
3 coordinating student needs within the major including program assessment evaluation of applicants and advising of students
4 contributing to advertisement of the major at SCSU recruitment events and community engagement events and actively recruit qualified students to the major.
To be considered for tenure and promotion the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to:
1 teach and/or perform assignment effectively
2 conduct scholarly achievement or research
3 continue preparation and study in the discipline
4 contribute to student growth and development
5 provide service to the university and community (IFO Article 22 Section B).
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified Candidates has experience or has evidence of demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students.
Qualified Candidate has research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education.
Qualified candidates will have an earned doctorate in Addiction Counseling Psychology Counselor Education Rehabilitation or another closely related field. ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 1st 2025.
Qualified candidates will be licensed as an LADC or license eligible in the State of Minnesota. If not licensed able to submit application for licensure upon first semester. https://mn/boards/behavioralhealth/
Preferred Qualification
Evidence of commitment to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline.
Evidence of advising and mentorship of undergraduate students.
Evidence of research and scholarship in the area of addictions including peerreviewed publication and grant funding.
Experience with teambased learning and/or integrative course design principles.
