Job Description

The Coos Bay School District is accepting applications for experiencedTeacher for our Emotional Growth Center

Coos Bay School District intends to offer a onetime hiring bonus of $5000 as an incentive to attract highly qualified and endorsed Special Education teachers and Special Programs Specialists for theschool year.

Eligibility for One Time Bonus:

  • employees must be newly hired licensed personnel who hold a valid TSPC license and are endorsed to teach or deliver services that fall under the IDEA;AND/ OR
  • who are specialists (i.e. Speech Language Pathologists) and hold certification for practicing in the state of Oregon from a National Organization or other state credentialling programs (like ASHA)AND
  • are newly hired by the district and actively working prior to September 15th of thecontract year.

Job Summary:

This is a fulltime represented position by our licensed association. The teacher in the Emotional Growth Center is responsible for overseeing and managing the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students receiving special education services with significant social emotional and/or behavioral needs. This role ensures compliance with state and federal laws facilitates collaboration between special and general education staff and supports the delivery of services that meet student needs.

Key Responsibilities:

IEP Development and Compliance:

  • Draft review and revise IEPs in compliance with IDEA and district guidelines.
  • Ensure all timelines for annual reviews evaluations and progress reporting are met.
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate documentation in the students special education records.
  • Regularly monitor and document student behavior and academic progress to track growth and make datadriven decisions regarding intervention effectiveness.

Instructional Delivery:

  • Scaffold instruction aligned with IEP goals and services.
  • Coordinate with service providers (e.g. speechlanguage pathologists occupational therapists etc) to ensure students receive the required supports.
  • Create individualized student schedules aligned with documented need across multiple settings.

Behavioral Skill Development:

  • Respond to challenging behaviors through effectively deescalate using Collaborative Problem Solving approaches.
  • Develop and implement behavioral interventions for students with disabilities who exhibit challenging behaviors.
  • Directly teach appropriate social emotional behavioral skills to students including strategies to selfregulate emotions and manage frustration.
  • Establish a consistent routine clear visual cues and a supportive classroom atmosphere to minimize disruptive behaviors.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Serve as a liaison between special education and general education staff to support inclusive practices.
  • Provide guidance and support to general education teachers to implement accommodations and modifications.
  • Facilitate communication with parents/guardians to address concerns and provide updates on student progress.

Case Management:

  • Coordinate and schedule IEP meetings ensuring appropriate team members are present.
  • Lead IEP meetings and foster a collaborative environment for decisionmaking.
  • Address questions and concerns from families and staff regarding special education services.

Professional Collaboration:

  • Work staff to promote student success and meet individual needs.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional working relationships with families administrators teachers and agencies
  • Collaborate with building administrators to address systemic or classroomspecific issues related to special education.
  • Provide support and resources to educational assistants as needed regarding IEPrelated procedures and compliance.

Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications:

  • Properly endorsed Oregon Teaching License (Special Education)
  • Strong ability to work as a team member
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Collaborative Problem Solving training preferred
  • Proficiency developing IEPs facilitating IEP meetings and collaborating with teachers and related service providers
  • Knowledge of instructional practices and a variety of classroom management strategies
  • Indepth knowledge of data collection to inform instruction and planning
  • High level of patience emotional resilience and the ability to stay calm and focused under pressure
  • Knowledge of neuroscience and its implications on learning and development for students with disabilities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk sit stand use hands for fine manipulation handle or feel and reach with hands and arms and use a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is frequently required to stoop kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The work environments combine a standard classroom setting including standard classroom equipment (assistivetechnology copier phoneChromebookor computer audio/visual equipment etc. in a standard school setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate and occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and/or physically and emotionally dysregulated students.
