Job Description
Brooklyn Heights Montessori School offers a challenging and comprehensive curriculum built on the philosophy of Maria Montessori to children aged two years through eighth grade. Students work and learn in mixedage classes led by teaching teams of thoughtful and welltrained professionals. The students have exposure to a full range of academic and artistic courses. BHMS also offers an after school program and a summer day camp. The School is housed in a beautiful facility in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn and is ideally located for convenient access to all parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Job Description: Lower Elementary Head Teacher (grades 13
Start Date: Late August 2025
Reports to: Head of Elementary Programs
Brief Description: The Lower Elementary Head Teacher is a fulltime tenmonth position. The Lower Elementary Head Teacher will work in conjunction with the Head of Elementary Programs the Lower Elementary teaching team the Learning Support Team the Assistant Head of School and the Head of School to educate Lower Elementary students in accordance with the BHMS mission the Statement of Diversity the principles of Montessori educational philosophy and practices the curriculum and BHMS policies. They will lead the classroom team in developing a warm safe and caring environment in which children may grow and flourish socially emotionally physically and cognitively.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Plan and teach curriculum for the classroom in accordance with the curriculum of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School its mission and Montessori philosophy
- Collaborate review and update the Lower Elementary curriculum as needed in conjunction with the Head of Elementary Programs
- Design and maintain a prepared classroom environment
- Facilitate the intellectual emotional physical and social growth of each child
- Maintain student recordkeeping
- Plan and execute student field trips
- Build relationships and partner with families
- Prepare reports for parents and other schools in accordance with the established policies of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School
- Prepare for and participate in regular parentteacher conferences as set forth on the school calendar
- Actively participate in scheduled program level and faculty and staff meetings
- Attend and participate in various evening meetings such as BacktoSchool Night Parent Education as well as Community events
- Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with students parents and other teachers and school personnel
- Prepare annual statement of goals and objectives for professional development
- Seek and act on feedback
- Stay abreast of educational trends and developments
- Know and comply with the established policies and procedures of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School as stated in the Faculty & Staff Handbook
- Perform various reasonable tasks from time to time as requested by the Head of School or the Head of Elementary or the Assistant Head of School
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of three years Montessori classroom teaching experience as a Lead teacher
- Montessori Elementary I Credential
- Masters Degree
