Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic selfmotivated Telecom Design Specialist who thrives in a fastpaced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Oakland CA.

Accountabilities:

• Plan execute monitor and control Design configuration test and commissioning activities for the telecommunication system according to the overall program schedule.
• Interface with Customer and Managers on design and commissioning status
• Maintain an open action items list and produce effective reporting.
• Perform and be accountable for verification and validation activities starting in the factory until system hand over
• Configure Radio Systems
• Configure Networks
• Supervise installations of Fiber Optic Cabling Systems and data communications systems
• Perform site surveys on railroad property to lay out basic equipment.
• Commissioning Optimization and testing of Radio network and fibers.
• May serve as onsite main contact
• May serve as the site leader for communications

Required Skills & Experience:

• 5 up to 10 years of working experience
• Knowledge of principles practices methods terminology and trends in communications engineering including the fields of radio frequency allocations electromagnetic wave propagation and radio frequency field strength measurements and tolerances.
• Knowledge of fiber optics computers digital communications processors servers programming applications software and hardware related to radio communications.
• Working knowledge of Complex Networks design both wired and wireless
• Experience with network architecture design
• Working Knowledge of network design patterns constraints and protocols (CCNA or equivalent certification preferred)
• Working knowledge of Switching and Routing protocols
• Working knowledge of wireless communications in demanding scenarios
• Ability to use sophisticated test equipment including multimeters oscilloscopes and a spectrum analyzer.
• Working knowledge of Test and commissioning processes
• Skilled in handling electric electronic and mechanical drawings and schematics
• Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
• Excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to communicate complex technical information

Desired Skills & Experience:

• Knowledge of telecoms systems for the railway industry
• Electrical Electronic or Computer Engineering or Information Technology Qualifications/ University Degree
• From 2 years of Railway System Engineering expertise

Education:

Bachelors Degree in Engineering area or equivalent technical background

In accordance with the DOTs FRA and FTA programs Hitachis substance screening program tests preemployment candidates and current employees as required for safetysensitive positions.
The salary range for this position is $10800 $16200 per year. Final pay is determined by the candidates experience skillset and ability level internal equity and location.
