JOB PURPOSE:
Under general supervision of Regional Site Director and EHS Manager of Education delivers high quality Early Childhood Development services to the infants and toddlers enrolled in center programs including educational social physical nutritional and psychological development of children under their care. Communicates with parents on their childs individual progress and maintains records of attendance and educational achievement. Plans lessons serves meals and ensures a healthy and safe learning environment for children.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the care and supervision of all enrolled PACE Education Division centerbased children planning and implementing classroom lessons conducting meetings and conferences with parents coordinating activities and events for children and parents interacting with the public and providing customer service by phone email and in person and preparing correspondence reports records and other paperwork required by the early childhood education program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
- Supervise children up to 7 hours per day.
- Ensures child/adult ratio is met and maintained.
- Conduct safety checks and maintain a safe clean caregiving environment practices good personal hygiene and handwashing and assures the wellbeing and safety of all the children in the environment and sanitize all areas of the classroom including food preparation and eating area
- Respond quickly to childrens different personal needs (verbal and nonverbal cues) temperament styles abilities and cultures.
- Implements and documents individualized feeding plans for infants and toddlers and respect individual preferences and eating style.
- Tend to infants and toddlers personal hygiene needs during routines such as diaper changing cleaning feeding and changing soiled or wet clothes.
- Prepares and/or serves meals and snacks; holding infants sitting with toddlers to encourage social interaction good nutrition and performs housekeeping tasks.
- Maintains a clean safe and sanitized environment (inclusive of sanitizing materials and dishwashing as needed).
- Supervise children during nap time.
- Develop and utilize integrated curriculum plans which reflect mandated elements and components parental and cultural influences and promote the social emotional physical and cognitive development of Early Head Start children.
- Work with parents to develop individual lesson plans goals and objectives for each childs development in the domains required by the Head Start Performance Standards.
- Organizes each days activities to provide children with a variety of experiences.
- Schedule support and follow through with the developmental screening and ongoing assessment of infants and toddlers motor language social cognitive perceptual and emotional skills (including but not limited to DRDP2015 IT ASQ3 ASQ: SE2 etc..
- Participate and assist in implementation of the Individual Family Service Plan. Coordinate services between families and other community agencies.
- Ensures that education timelines are met within their required calendar day (i.e.timelines etc..
- Prepare infant/toddler learning environment for children to learn through active exploration and interaction with adult caregivers and adapt activities for infants and toddlers with special needs.
- Maintain an open friendly and cooperative relationship with each childs family; encourage parental involvement in the program; promote parentchild bonding and nurturing parentchild relationships.
- Promote feelings of security and trust in infants and toddlers by conveying warmth supportiveness and comfort; establish strong and caring relationships with children.
- Conduct home visits and parent conferences for the purpose of assessment and support and to share information on classroom progress and educational strategies at school and home.
- Develop individual transition plans with families agency staff and any pertinent community agencies.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities; attend workshops conferences inservice training and classes to increase professional knowledge; serve on committees as assigned.
- Maintains records of enrollment attendance and other required paperwork both manually and digitally.
- Prepares attendance records first aid/injury reports food service records meal participation records family contact records memos correspondence and other jobrelated documents.
- Accurately completes all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis according to agency policies and procedures.
- Work effectively with other team members
- Cooperates with Site Lead Teacher Regional Site Director and Service Area Managers in planning supervision and implementation of overall program
- Substitute as needed in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Attends all assigned meetings and trainings as required by the program.
- Supports and ensures the achievement of recruitment and enrollment goals.
- Assists in accomplishing the programs nonfederal share through the access of community resources (services donations discounts and/or goods).
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE):
- Education and Work Experience
- Associate degree in early childhood education child development or related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accreditation association recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
- Must possess a current and valid Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher
- Must have three 3 semester units in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development with a total of six 6 units within the first year of employment.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to provide responsive and nurturing teacherchild interactions and to plan and implement learning experiences that:
- Ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment data.
- Promote childrens progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards including for children with disabilities and dual language learners as appropriate.
- Advance childrens intellectual and physical development including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy phonemic and print awareness understanding and use of language and increasingly complex and varied vocabulary appreciation of books understanding of early math and science problemsolving skills and approaches to learning.
- Establish and maintain a healthy learning environment.
- Support childrens social and emotional development.
- Encourage family involvement of the children in an Early Head Start program and support the development of relationships between children and their families.
- Promote infant/toddler development.
- Demonstrate knowledge of safety issues in infant/toddler care (such as SIDS).
- Facilitate effective communication with infants toddlers parents and other staff members.
- Must be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills
- Must have good organizational written/oral communication and observation skills
- Basic computer skills required.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus but not required
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
- Current Adult & Pediatric CPR/1St Aid Certificate

- Must pass the following background checks prior to start of employment:

- Must have verification of T.B. clearance at time of employment to be renewed every four 4 years (every 4 years for chest xrays).
- Must complete a physical examination at time of employment to be renewed every four 4 years.
- Provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Influenza and COVID19.
- Must complete 15 clock hours of professional development annually that builds the knowledge experience skills and abilities of staff to improve child family and staff outcomes. Of this a minimum of 50 of the 15 hours (or 7.5 hours) must be focused on the specific content area or job assignment. Must also complete an annual Professional Development Plan (PDP) to be reviewed 3 times during the year.
- Must obtain 21 hours/year of professional development 105 hours every five years) to maintain their teaching certification.
- PACE will assist applicants that are eligible and have an active Certificate of Clearance with the Commission on Teacher Credentialing to apply for a Temporary County Certificate Child Development (TCC) through Los Angeles County while waiting for CTC (Commission on Teacher Credentialing) to process.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The working conditions and physical demands of this position will be those that must be met to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties. The physical environment the incumbent will work in is typically a preschool environment with moderate noise levels that would be expected in that type of work environment. Outdoor and indoor supervision of playgrounds / workplace for ongoing periods occurs regularly. Lift and carry up to 45 lbs. or more. The individual must be able to work with children at their eye level and always maintain visual supervision of children as well as hear communicate and comprehend effectively with children staff and parents. The individual also must be able to walk sit kneel crawl carry push pull and participate in activities indoors and outdoors as needed in an environment with children and adults.
- T.B. Test within the past year prior to employment and every four 4 years thereafter (every 4 years for a chest Xray).
- Must pass health screening (LIC 503 at time of employment health screening is accepted within one year prior to hire to be renewed every four 4 years.
