Description

The Controller will drive operational excellence and be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the general accounting team. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker who can multitask meet deadlines manage daytoday operational efficiency within the department and lead a team of more than 10 individuals. The Controller will work closely with other senior leadership to align operations with business goals and deliver exceptional value to the team residents and investors while modeling the organizational purpose values and standards consistently.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties with respect to Companys Purpose Values Standards & Core Competencies.
  • Review and understand the OSP (Operation & Stabilization Plan) for each acquired property
  • Management oversight and assessment of the accounting team including hiring training and retention.
  • Planning organizing and coordinating month and yearend close processing.
  • Preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and related reporting.
  • Ensuring successful completion of the companys tax filings including federal and state income tax sales tax and property tax.
  • Chart of accounts enhancements to improve reporting efficiency.
  • Work closely with ownership and management team to consistently improve processes and reporting.
  • Review and ensure appropriate internal controls are implemented.
  • Promote a service oriented customer friendly approach to our accounting and finance operations and facilitate timely resolution of issues and questions for all stakeholders.
  • Communicating with executives and colleagues; Communicate any problems promptly and clearly and make recommendations towards solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with Team Success to recruit hire manage and retain staff.
  • Travel as needed to communities.
  • Complete assigned tasks consistent with Fair Housing regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment; following all safety & emergency procedures
  • Carries out all responsibilities in compliance with the organizations policies procedures and state federal and local laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Requirements

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting.
  • 7 years relevant accounting experience including a minimum of 5 years in a management or leadership capacity including supervision of staff
  • Manage lead and motivate the accounting team and help build company culture.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional partners to resolve month end discrepancies and solve process efficiencies.
  • Month and Year end close experience with multi company consolidation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications and experience with Yardi a plus
  • Tax experience: Corporate Income Sales and Property
  • Financial Reporting GL structuring and Budgeting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and Internal Controls
  • Excellent communication organizational technology and leadership skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fastpaced deadline driven environment while encouraging teamwork
  • Proficient in English verbal and written communication skills including professional telephone and email etiquette.
  • Ability to multitask and manage various project elements simultaneously.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and results focused.
  • Must have a strong work ethic be selfmotivated and able to thrive in a fastpaced deadlinedriven environment.
  • Identify training and development opportunities to enhance employee capabilities and performance
  • Mentor and develop accounting team members to support career growth and succession planning.
  • Must be able to pass background and drug screening.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Monte Christo Communities is committed to ensuring the health and safety of their workforce. Computer workstation and climatecontrolled office environment. May enter areas which are nonairconditioned and where workers can expect to be occasionally exposed to heat cold and humidity fluctuating temperature conditions due to weather residential traffic dust and noise.
