Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Financial Operations Manager to lead our financial team in Southern California. This role is essential in managing day-to-day financial activities ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and developing internal controls to mitigate risk and protect the organization s assets. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer the Financial Operations Manager will drive financial strategy and operational efficiency bringing a strong background in finance and experience in multi-location retail business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain internal financial controls and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure financial reporting meets accounting standards.
- Analyze financial statements and budget variances.
- Offer insights on cost management and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
- Conduct financial analysis to support decisions on capital investments pricing strategies
- Recruit train and develop accounting staff.
- Prepare and distribute comprehensive financial reports on a monthly quarterly and annual basis.
- Manage tax reporting including sales and property taxes and coordinate with external CPAs for income tax preparation.
- Manage cash application and recommend process improvements for cost savings and efficiency.
- Oversee property management activities for retail leases including monitoring rent escalations and common area maintenance (CAM) charges.
- Provide budgeting forecasting and strategic financial advice to support business growth.
- Calculate and report key financial and operational metrics.
- Support financial collateral and tax audits as required.
- Lead the accounting team ensuring accurate and timely processing of accounts payable accounts receivable and bank reconciliations.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant field such as finance accounting or business administration.
- Professional accounting certification (e.g. CPA) preferred.
- Several years of experience in a similar controller/financial management role ideally within a retail or multi-location business.
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of managing and developing teams.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles including inventory control and financial reporting standards.
- Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
- Excellent analytical communication and critical thinking skills.
