Nature of the Position
Reporting to the Manager of Public Works and general supervision of the Public Works Foreman the Public Works Operator I assists with the construction and maintenance of roads sewers ditches boulevards parks and the airport. This role operates mobile equipment and performs vehicle maintenance activities when required.
Typical job duties will include labourer duties including shovelling blowing whacking and compressing carrying out minor road repairs garbage collection maintenance of public works vehicles and equipment responding to emergency call outs and taking appropriate action assists with the clean up and disposal of abandoned personal property installing and replacing street signs and clearing catch basins sewers and ditches.
Required Competencies
Preferred Competencies
Level One EOCP (or higher) Wastewater Collections Certification would be preferred. The successful candidate may be expected to receive and maintain RCMP enhanced reliability security clearance; therefore existing valid enhanced reliability security clearance would be an asset.
Working Conditions
This opportunity is a temporary backfill and the duration of employment will be based on the return of an incumbent on leave. The wage is set at Grid Level 6 $31.59 $35.10 per hour plus 9.8 of straighttime pay in lieu of scheduled vacations paid holidays health and welfare benefits and other paid leave This position involves shiftwork including weekends for snow and ice removal.
