Special Education Assistant 1:1
Are you a passionate dedicated Education Assistant looking to be a part of unique team at a beautiful communitybased school in Ahousaht BC If so this opportunity is for you.
Maaqtusiis Elementary School is committed to serving the Ahousaht Nation on the West Coast of Vancouver Island 30minute water taxi from Tofino). We are a traumainformed school empowering strong proud and resilient young people rising above the effects of colonization residential schooling cultural genocide and racism. We are committed to reflecting and supporting the revitalization of Ahousaht culture and language. With 1220 students per classroom class sizes are small allowing for highquality engaging instruction.
We are Looking for Someone Who:
- Is a passionate dedicated Special Education Assistant who wants to support a student with exceptionalities in class and in onetoone support sessions
- Comfortable using communicative technology (iPad/Tablet) to support communication
- Willing to learn and use American Sign Language (ASL)
- Believes that a positive caring relationship with a student is foundational to learning
- Assists students in reaching their highest potential
- Is able and willing to work with classroom teachers to adapt and modify the curriculum to meet the individual needs of a student
The Position:
- The successful applicant will receive a fulltime oneyear contract with the possibility of extending
- The successful applicant will work with a specific student with exceptionalities fulltime
- The successful applicant will receive a competitive salary.
Expected Skills:
- Ability to operate communicative technology
- Willingness to learn American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to develop rapport with students
- Ability to deliver curriculum
- Ability to work collaboratively with fellow teachers education assistants and support staff
- Strong interpersonal skills (including: communicating critical thinking collaborating)
