Job Description

  • Parttime contract until 30/06/2025.
  • SCHADS Award Level 4 $43.51 $46.81 per hour shift loading) plus super. NFP salary packaging available.
  • Shifts: This is predominately an out of hours role operating between 16:00 08:30 Monday Sunday.
  • Located in Cairns QLD (WFH local travel).

About the Victims of Community Crime Response (VoCCR) Service

The Victims of Community Crime Response (VoCCR) pilot service focuses on addressing current gaps faced by victimsurvivors needing immediate practical support after experiencing an interpersonal violent crime. Our aim is to provide efficient shortterm crisis assistance such as coordinating emergency transport and accommodation and addressing basic needs such as food clothing home safety upgrades and more within the first 72 hours of the incident. We also provide warm referrals for longterm support which may involve legal health financial and housing support.

What to expect in your new role

Cairns (QLD) Response & Connection Practitioners provide immediate assistance to victims/survivors referred to VoCCR by the QPS (Queensland Police Service) after experiencing an act of interpersonal violence. This role will deliver immediate traumainformed support in the form of answering or triaging inbound calls with compassion providing psychological first aid and emotional support through traditional CBT interventions such as mindfulness and grounding techniques for callers presenting in acute distress undertaking risk and needs assessments safety planning and guiding service users through warm referral pathways. At times at the request of the victim and in consultation with the Team Leader Response and Connection Practitioners will travel to designated locations within the Cairns QLD area to offer inperson crisis support and if required coordinate essential practical needs such as emergency transport and accommodation food clothing safety enhancements and other forms of practical assistance.

Onboarding & Training information

Group intake 14/04/2025

  • Week 1 training: Onboarding training held from head office (Brisbane City QLD).
  • Week 2 training: Virtual buddy shifts from home.

Required experience for the role

  • Confidence in navigating IT and phone systems such as CRMs Microsoft Office suite etc. You must be able to promptly type case notes during calls and maintain database accuracy.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in areas relevant community and human services field with the ability to apply a trauma informed approach and other practice frameworks/ theories relevant to crisis intervention.
  • Minimum qualification level Diploma community services youth work counselling or other relevant fields.
  • Risk and needs assessments safety planning referrals or case management.
  • Completing tasks within agreed timeframes including planning implementation and coordination of practical support.
  • Experience navigating sensitive situations calmly and professionally.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders including both sector and nonsector partners.
  • High level of empathy and cultural awareness when engaging with diverse groups; including working towards supportive and culturally safe spaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Additional requirements

  • Currently living within the Cairns QLD region.
  • Own a reliable insured vehicle (Please note that you will not be transporting clients).
  • Valid unrestricted Australian drivers license.
  • Strong NBN connection.
  • Appropriate home office.
  • Right to work in Australia.
  • Valid (P) BlueCard or willingness to obtain.
  • Willingness to complete a national police check facilitated by DVConnect.
  • Availability and commitment to successfully complete 2 weeks of fulltime training prior to commencing contracted hours.

Desirable experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Queensland Domestic Violence Legislation and Queensland criminal justice legislation including victim of crime and child protection (or willingness to acquire).
  • Supporting highrisk clients and/or referral intake experience.
