Join Our Team as a Carer Support Worker: Make a Difference in the Lives of Children and Families

Are you passionate about supporting children families and carers Do you want to be a vital part of a program that makes a lasting impact on the lives of children and young people in Out of Home Care If so we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Carer Support Worker within the Permanency Support Program (PSP).

In this role youll play a key part in supporting and developing carers ensuring they are wellequipped to provide a safe nurturing and loving environment for children and young people. By working closely with the case management team youll help foster positive relationships and achieve permanency goals for the children in care. Your work will directly contribute to the success of the program making a real difference in the lives of children and their carers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carer engagement and Support: Ensure carers are supported through home visits and regular contact ensuring carers are wellprepared and supported to meet the needs of children.
  • Carer Advocacy & Wellbeing: Advocate for carers supporting them through challenges addressing issues related to burnout vicarious trauma and helping to foster a positive resilient community of carers.
  • Training & Development: Deliver preauthorisation and ongoing training programs to ensure carers are confident and equipped with the tools they need for successful caregiving. This includes adapting training for diverse learning styles and needs including those for carers with English as a second language.
  • Placement Matching & Transition Support: Work with the team to identify suitable carer matches for children ensuring cultural and individual needs are met. Provide ongoing support through placement transitions to ensure smooth adjustments for children and carers.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Maintain accurate uptodate records prepare detailed reports and ensure compliance with all child protection regulations and legislative requirements.
  • Cultural Competency: Work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD communities ensuring culturally safe practices are embedded throughout the program.

What Youll Bring:

  • Essential:
    • A degree in Social Work Social Science Psychology or a related field or a Diploma with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
    • Experience in child protection foster care or related fields.
    • A strong understanding of the challenges and requirements of carers.
    • Knowledge of traumainformed care child development and attachment theory.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct assessments and reviews including home visits and compliance checks.
    • Experience in training mentoring and delivering support groups.
    • Excellent communication and reportwriting skills.
    • A valid NSW Working with Children Check National Police History Check NSW drivers license and access to a vehicle with comprehensive insurance.
  • Desirable:
    • Fluency in a relevant community language.
    • Postgraduate qualifications or additional training in child protection traumainformed care or family support services.
    • Experience in undertaking complex family assessments
