Job Description

  • Part time 2 days per week) Continuing position for a Lecturer in Sydney Dental School

  • Make a significant contribution to student clinical education at the School of Dentistry

  • Base Salary from Level B $122830 $145858 (pro rata) 17 superannuation. A successful candidate with AHPRA Registration will also receive Dental Clinical Loading(prorata)

About the opportunity

The University of Sydney School of Dentistry (Sydney Dental School) is ranked amongst the top dental schools internationally and is one of the largest dental schools in Australia. It has campuses in the Sydney Dental Hospital (in innereastern Sydney) and the Westmead Centre for Oral Health at Westmead Hospital (in western Sydney) and outreach servicebased teaching is undertaken across the state of NSW.

We are seeking a Lecturer (Clinical Education) in the discipline of Endodontics. You will make a make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice in Sydney Dental School with a focus on coaching and developing students in the provision of bestpractice patient care.

Using your advanced knowledge in general dental practice your key responsibilities will be to:

  • deliver core clinical learning experiences for postgraduate students engaged in SDS education programs

  • supervise dentistry students in clinical settings.

  • deliver clinical education in dental practice and provide mentorship to students

  • lead teamteaching activities with other staff contributing to calibration of casual and other contracted teaching staff

  • apply industry/clinical knowledge to inform teaching and learning practices

  • develop teaching and assessment materials which align with best practice with support from more senior clinicians or academic staff within the School of Dentistry.

  • engage with professional learning opportunities provided at the faculty and University level

About you

  • a BDS/DMD or equivalent primary qualification

  • postgraduate qualifications In a relevant field

  • desirable: full accreditation as specialist/consultant with specialist college and/or eligible for registration in NSW as health professional in relevant discipline

  • significant recent clinical expertise in the area of endodontics and proven ability to apply expertise and knowledge to inform pedagogical practice (usually more than three years post an accredited health professional qualification)

  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities

  • demonstrated capacity to stimulate actively engage and educate students in the provision of outstanding patient care

  • a network of relationships with key academic clinical and professional institutions partners and stakeholders

  • experience in teaching and learning in a tertiary environment as evidenced by student coaching and skills development

  • demonstrated success in designing implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives with a clinical focus.
