SERVICE NAVIGATION SPECIALIST

Service Navigation Specialist Role Description:
The Service Navigation Specialists offer WSD schools a direct link to the supports available at Huddle NorWest and more broadly to other Huddle Manitoba sites. They are a direct resource and contact for School Support Teams including Elder Principals Vice Principals School Counsellors IERTs/ Resource Teachers Clinicians Community / Intercultural Support Workers Indigenous Graduation Support Teachers other support staff. They are also a direct support for our school community parents/ guardians and family members.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday combination of some 8:30am4:30pm; 10am6pm; and 12pm8pm shifts in addition to a possible Saturday shift as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support school communities and caregivers to access supports in the areas of counselling mental health / addictions employment services and primary medical care bridging school community and home;
- Form a strong collaborative relationship with each of the Manitoba Huddle Sites;
- Directly link the Huddle services with Winnipeg School Division school support teams;
- Ongoing communication and education to Winnipeg School Division Support teams on Huddle Services and part of the communication strategy (website social media platforms newsletters staff meetings meet the teacher) to ensure WSD school communities and caregivers are aware of the Service Navigation Specialist and the Huddles;
- Collaborate with all levels of Winnipeg School Division administration departments and school communities to identify needs and work with the Huddles to cocreate supports (for instance newcomer mental health supports);
- Work with the Huddles to identify opportunities to bring Huddle services into a variety of schools to remove the barrier to access (can include counselling supports cultural activities and other initiatives);
- Identify and collaborate with previously established youthrun school leadership groups (GSAs Sources of Strength groups cultural groups);
- Work within families and community systems as required to consult and navigate supports;
- Link with other agencies as required for advocacy or support;
- Work with the Huddles and Winnipeg School Division to eliminate barriers to services; (including transportation hours of operation);
- Collect data on service navigation interventions connecting with students families and schools and measure outcomes and impact from service delivery model.
- Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle required.
The Service Navigation Specialist will work within a number of overlapping teams: WSD School Support Teams (Principal/ Vice Principal Counsellor/ Resource Clinicians and others); Huddle Site (coordinator counsellors peer navigator primary care providers); Huddle WSD Service Navigation Specialists Network (group of three members within the larger team).
Experience and/or Training:
The Service Navigation Specialists training and experience would be within the realm of social work counselling psychology community development mental health or related social services training. The successful candidate will meet one of the following criteria:
- Registered Social Worker
- Registered Psychiatric Nurse
- Registered Occupational Therapist
- Registered Clinical Psychologist
- Certified CCPA Counsellor (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association)
- Other relevant or appropriate certification
- Direct experience in a service navigation specialist role
As well as:
- Minimum one year of experience doing similar work in areas of counselling clinical service or service navigation.
The Service Navigation Specialists will demonstrate successful experience in the following areas:
- Knowledge of the education system and experience working with children youth and families;
- Work collaboratively in inclusive and diverse environments;
- Knowledge of youth mental health and addictions;
- Ability to work with families/ communities from a systems and/or human ecological approach;
- Collaborating and liaising with diverse multiple systems and collateral agencies including the education system;
- Identifying assessing and coordinating needs;
- Project management data collection measuring impact of service delivery;
- Strong understanding and experience working with diverse communities and from an inclusion framework;
- Effective and strong communication skills;
- Ability to work in teams but also independently;
- Commitment to reconciliation and decolonizing practices.

Salary range: $34.836$46.372 per hour (as per MAHCP agreement)
