Your role and responsibilities

Your role as a Coroners Officer is to investigate sudden and unexpected deaths that are referred to the Coroners Service. You will be exposed to upsetting and confidential material and will be working with bereaved families.

  • maintaining an accurate electronic file detailing your enquiries and present evidence to the Coroner
  • be a key contact for the bereaved family to keep them informed of progress and signpost them to relevant support agencies
  • liaise directly with a range of external agencies including police funeral directors and medical clinicians
  • to uphold the service mission statement to provide a caring and efficient service for the investigation of deaths in a sensitive thorough and timely manner
  • you must be able to work effectively as part of a team supporting team members and demonstrate a flexible approach to managing your case work.

You will need

  • good listening and questioning skills and the ability to plan and organise your workload
  • a sound knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook
  • good understanding of data protection and data sharing legislation
  • the ability to read and understand medical and legal terminology
  • to undergo Police vetting at NPPV level 2.

This role will be worked from a fixed base listed in the job details above but once fully trained there are options for hybrid working.
