A Brief OverviewThe Philanthropy Officer instills a culture of philanthropy and deepens relationships in the community for the purposes of generating philanthropic giving and engagement. Responsible for growing and maintaining a comprehensive giving program focused on attracting philanthropic gifts in the assigned fundraising focus areas and identified gift thresholds (mid-level major gifts planned giving or corporate/organizational giving). As needed for highest priority constituents the position integrates leadership physicians subject matter experts and volunteers into a carefully planned program of cultivation solicitation and stewardship while ensuring sound prospect management. This position serves as a member of the Foundation development staff responsible for growing and maintaining a comprehensive philanthropic giving program.
What you will do
- Manages a portfolio of benefactors and constituents including grateful patients and families; physicians and providers leaders organizations and corporate partners to develop meaningful engagement solicitation and stewardship strategies to cultivate and enhance donor relationships.
- Carries a portfolio of 100 to 125 constituent and works on a healthy balance of 50% cultivation 40% solicitation and 10% stewardship.
- Devotes at least 60% of time to face-to-face contacts with identified qualified potential and existing benefactors.
- Effectively moves assigned constituents through the complete giving cycle of validation engagement cultivation solicitation gift negotiation and stewardship.
- Provides leadership in fulfilling Averas philanthropic agenda by serving in key roles on campaigns and special projects.
- Maintains timely and consistent contact with constituents in order to establish sustain and enhance positive relationships leading to initial gift repeat gifts and upgraded gifts using moves management principles.
- Cultivates relationships to support assigned philanthropic priorities and giving levels (mid major and legacy/planned giving) and meet philanthropic revenue goals through relationship building activities such as personal visits letters telephone calls etc.
- Collaborates with the prospect research staff to qualify constituents at the highest reasonable level of contribution.
- Ensures proper stewardship of the gifts and appropriate recognition consistent with benefactors wishes. Maintains workable knowledge of mid-level major and planned giving vehicles in order to facilitate the most appropriate gift for the constituent.
- Collaborates to establish an annual plan that includes criteria such as number of personal visits proposals gift closures strategies and team funds raised.
- Responsibilities include interviewing hiring developing training and retaining employees; planning assigning and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Education License/Certification or Work Experience:
- Bachelors in public relations communications nonprofit management or a related field.
Preferred Education License/Certification or Work Experience:
- Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) - CFRE International
- 1-3 years fundraising with experience in major gift solicitation and program management or strong sales or account executive expertise.
