An opportunity has arisen within the Insurance Team for a full time Insurance Officer. The Insurance Team provides a specialist insurance service; the key functions include the arrangement and management of external and internal insurance programmes and the coordination and management of claims covered by the insurance programme.
Reporting to the Insurance Team Manager your main duties of the role will involve; the handling and management of insurance claims liaising with members of the public Officers of the Council the Councils Insurers and other representatives (e.g. solicitors loss adjusters) and collating/sharing reports. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing as well as good computer skills.
You must be able to contribute to efficient team working as well as be able to work on ones own initiative and manage and prioritise your own workload to maximise performance. You must alsobe able to work under high pressure and adhere to strict time limits with both internal and external stakeholders.
Knowledge of Local Authority working and insurance arrangements is desirable but not essential as training will be given to the successful candidate.
Key experience and skills include:
- Communicate effectively with members of the public Council staff Members and external agencies in writing on the phone by online virtual means and face to face
- To have good verbal and written skills and an ability to write detailed correspondence and record information in a clear and concise manner along with the ability to exercise objective judgement and make decisions as required within the parameters of the position
- Ability to deal with challenging situations and behaviour in a constructive way together with the ability to empathise with customers whilst remaining objective and in accordance with policy
- Work on own initiative within policy and to prioritise work in a demanding environment to maximise performance as well as being able to work as part of a team and contribute to team objectives. Ability to influence and implement changes for service improvement
- Experience of working in an office or similar environment and working within a team
- Ability to develop positive working relationships with colleagues and all stakeholders
- Organise and manage workload effectively and experience of working under pressure within strict timescales
- Enthusiastic pro-active and self-motivated
- Experience of using computers and information /communication technology e.g. MS Outlook Edge Word Excel Teams and Databases along with the ability to work with several software applications at a time
- Take responsibility for continuing self-development and participate in training and development activities. Ability to acquire build and maintain a thorough knowledge of relevant principles protocols policy and strategy areas including legislation
- Ensure compliance with and actively promote Health & Safety at Work Legislation Council and Departmental H&S policies and procedures. Comply with Data Protection Act 2018
