Job Description

Johnson County Department of Health and Environment is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Community Health Division Director. This position provides excellent benefits including health insurance wellness programs and discounts retirement programs and various other discount programs. The position is located at 11875 S Sunset Drive Suite 300 Olathe KS 66061.

This position directs the work of programs and services focused on community health and outreach including Chronic Disease Risk Reduction Injury Prevention Chronic Disease Prevention Diabetes Prevention Program Food Policy Council Targeted Case Management Community Health Worker program and Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children (WIC). In addition to maintaining a competent workforce this position is responsible for achieving the goals and objectives of multiple grants budget performance measures and managing the respective grant and county budgets for each program.

This position will remain open until filled with first review of applicants on Wednesday March 19th 2025.

Duties for this position include:

  • Leads the development of a High Performing Organization through active demonstration of the countys Pillars of Performance encouraging leadership and empowerment at all levels of the organization; dedicates QII activities for self and staff; actively mentors coaches and collaborates with employees to enhance the county mission and vision keeping in mind the common goal of leaving our community better than we found it.
  • Directs the work of the Community Health Division to ensure compliance with State and Federal program requirements and grant guidance for the various programs in the division; analyzes guidelines and activities for programs based on requirements trends and evidencebased practice and determines the need for additional protocols or updating of current ones; consults with County Health Officer/Medical Advisor to assure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and the implementation of evidencebased practices and guidelines; assesses and evaluates recommendations from the Divisions program managers and staff to assure efficient and effective service delivery across the division.
  • Collaborates and builds positive relationships with all DHE management staff senior management of other county departments regional and state health departments hospitals and other community health providers schools community organizations and businesses in order to enhance and improve service delivery and to improve the overall health status of the community. Assists with the community health assessment community health improvement and reaccreditation activities.
  • Assures that data collection and analysis is completed by program staff and reviews/analyzes it prior to submission to ensure that all program objectives are met; utilizes data collected to evaluate opportunities for program improvement and initiates staff work on program improvement activities; reviews finalizes and submits contractual agreements for approval by the Department Director.

Job Requirements

This position requires a masters degree in MHP MPA MSW MSN Health Policy or relevant field of study. Eight 8 years of experience in Public Health or relevant field and three 3 years leading directing supervising or coordinating the work of others are also required.

*Experience may be substituted for degree.

Within sixty 60 days of hire employees (select DHE and EMS positions) must produce proof of immunization proof of immunity proof that immunization is medically contraindicated submit a written objection to immunization based upon a sincerely held religious belief or receive vaccination for the following: Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR); Tetanus Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis (TDAP); and Varicella (Chickenpox).

All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
