Job Description

Fire Chief Burlington WI (pop. 11047. Incorporated in 1886 Burlington is a growing fullservice community located in Racine County approximately 30 miles southwest of Milwaukee and 70 miles northwest of Chicago. Located along the banks of the Fox and White rivers Burlington offers a superior quality of life. The community has excellent schools an aquatic center 28 parks a thriving downtown area and several successful industrial parks. The City is also experiencing residential growth along its southern corridor.

In Burlington the Fire Chief position offers the ideal candidate the chance to build on a strong tradition of excellence dating back to 1877. The Burlington Fire Department is a combination department consisting of 15 fulltime employees six parttime staff and more than 30 volunteers. The department provides allhazards fire/EMS (ALS) service for an area of approximately eight square miles responding from one centrally located fire station. The department continually strives to deliver service that is effective and efficient in supporting the highest quality of life in Burlington to its residents and visitors.

The department has an ISO 2 rating and the new Chief will manage budgets of approximately $2.5 million. More than 85 of the departments calls are EMSrelated. In 2024 the department responded to 1770 calls for service. Emergency dispatch is provided by the Racine County Communications Center.

The Fire Chief is appointed by the Citys Fire and Police Commission and has a statutory working relationship to the Mayor. On a daytoday basis the Fire Chief reports to and works closely with the City Administrator.

Qualified candidates should have:

A bachelors degree in fire administration emergency management or public administration

At least five years experience of a progressively responsible nature as a paid or volunteer firefighter including all certifications up to a Wisconsin Firefighter II (or equivalent) and five years plus of supervisory duties which must have been equivalent to a Fire Lieutenant or higher

A current EMS license at or above AdvancedEMT(AEMT) (Wisconsin or NREMT)

Wisconsin State Fire Inspector I certification or ability to attain same

Ideally certification from the National Academy Executive Fire Officer program

Candidates should also possess:

Experience with a combination department that values the importance of integrating fulltime staff with parttime staff and volunteers is ideal

The ability to develop strong relationships with surrounding Fire/EMS agencies

Welldeveloped communication skills and the utmost integrity

A clear and dynamic vision for providing excellent proactive emergency services

A starting salary range is $107000 $115000 (midpoint) / DOQ and an excellent benefit package is offered.
