CONTEXT OF THE JOB:
The Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) established in 2009 is a research education and outreach partnership dedicated to addressing complex environmental issues. DENIN is housed within the Research Office at the University of Delaware with offices located in the Patrick T. Harker Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory. DENIN was established to coordinate the Universitys multidisciplinary expertise around key environmental issues facilitate large interdisciplinary projects and showcase the Universitys wellestablished nationally significant portfolio of environmental science engineering and policy competencies. DENIN has a small teamdriven staff who work creatively to develop innovative and competitive research and education programs. The Program Coordinator Communications and Education will report directly to the Associate Director of Diversity Education and Outreach with a dotted line to OCMs Senior Director for Research Communications. The Program Coordinator will form an integral part of the DENIN staff working in collaboration with team members DENIN affiliates and partners to strengthen DENINs education programs and manage the units communications campaigns.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Creates and implements a comprehensive communications plan that includes social media websites emails newsletters and news stories.
  • Coordinates the recruitment programming and reporting of DENINs graduate and undergraduate education programming including the DENIN Fellows and research internships using student feedback and current best practices to continuously improve programming. Assists with the development and implementation of DENIN events and special activities.
  • Manages DENINs social media accounts including Facebook Instagram X LinkedIn and YouTube including content development (using Canva Illustrator or other preferred programs) in accordance with UD social media guidelines and standards.
  • Makes basic updates to DENIN and projectspecific websites using WordPress.
  • Creates and manages seminars and educational opportunities.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of broadening participation and diversity plans designed to increase the access and inclusion of historically underrepresented populations in STEM research.
  • Represents DENIN at events and conferences (e.g. Earth Day events; Pitch:90; DENIN Research Symposium film screenings).
  • Collaborates on evaluation processes needed for project management and annual reporting.
  • Works with other UD entities (such as the Office of Communications and Marketing) and external partners to create content and ensure that all content aligns with UD editorial style and branding guides.
  • Creates and gives presentations to students leadership and advisory boards.
  • Drafts emails and individual communications on behalf of the Director and DENIN staff.
  • Maintains and improves professional competence through formal and nonformal courses and conferences as well as other professional development opportunities.
  • Provides other program and departmental support as needed.
  • Performs other jobrelated duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree and three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in communications design STEM/environmental education or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively present information on an individual/group basis with a variety of audiences at various educational levels using a variety of media.
  • Familiarity and experience with online communications including email web communications social media and basic website management.
  • Ability to create engaging online content including design and copy using programs such as Canva or Adobe Illustrator.
  • Strong organizational communication public speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong timemanagement skills to handle tasks with rolling and overlapping deadlines.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and perform tasks with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel Word and PowerPoint and Google products including Docs Forms Sheets and Slides.
