SEFPP is currently working with the National Population Council (NPC) to raise public awareness of issues related to population growth and factors influencing it. One important activity SEFPP is working on is focusing on popularization of media role in addressing population issues. Social media platforms are currently the modern communication means; hence, it is important for NPC staff to acquire the skills to be able to use these platforms effectively (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). Additionally, with the global pandemic, NPC has faced huge challenges in reaching to people and raising awareness using the traditional means of communication, this entails the need to develop NPC staff capabilities to cope with the change and be able to connect with individuals virtually.
Moreover, the National Population Strategy has allocated Pillar 2 foradolescents and youth and Pillar 4 for mass media and communication. According to the Facebook Q3 2017 report, 37 million people in Egypt access Facebook every month and over 22 million access it every day, with the largest age group for usage is 18-34. So, social media is considered a key to reach young women and men and can influence how personal decisions are made in this age group, which are the main target group for family planning programs.
The Social Media Consultant willenhance theNational Population Council (NPC) online presence on a social mediaplatforms and guide wider digital editorial processes.S/he will also manage social media campaigns in order to increase the reach, engagement and be able to interact with a wide range of audience. S/he will work on audience identification and build the content and messages based on behavior segmentation. In addition, S/he will oversee the content shared and posted on all NPC accounts to ensure harmony in all the messages.
S/he will prepare and conduct a series of workshops for a group of media staff within the NPC to build their capacity in media communications, including content creation and management. S/he will work closely with media department in the NPC to optimize social media profiles to promote positive health messages related to family planning.
The consultant will design strategies to use social media in a way that drives the targeted audience to focus on the importance of family planning, the strategies should engage audiences, especially young people, in dynamic, interactive and meaningful ways in order to spark and sustain conversations around issues related to family planning. In addition to developing online media campaigns involving the use of video, blogs, forums, and other features that are commonly seen on social networking sites.
