Job Description

This is a remote position.

Studio Ludo is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2015 whose mission is building better play through research design and advocacy. We are an internationally recognized leader in play research and design. Our work is focused on three areas. We study the impacts of play environments on physical activity and social behavior. We offer design assistance and safety/risk guidance to help craft remarkable places to play. We advocate at speaking events in publications and through media for better play spaces for all ages. Our work has been featured by The New York Times The Atlantic NPR Vox Curbed Next City Landscape Architecture Magazine and World Landscape Architecture Magazine. We believe that everyone deserves a great place to play and that behind every good design decision should be even better science. Position Summary: The Senior Designer will be a pivotal role within the organization. Under the guidance and direction of the Executive Director this role is responsible for the design of play environments in schoolyards streetscapes rooftops neighborhoods and in regional parks across the US; engaging with communities in workshop settings to support the reimagining of their local play space and culture; and managing projects from start to finish. We believe that play is more than a playground keeping us happy and healthy throughout life. A successful candidate will have a strong desire to design play spaces for all ages that break the boundaries of a traditional playground exploring risk and adventure being deeply immersed in nature and building community through play. They will demonstrate knowledge and interest in the role of play in human development physical and mental wellness as well as social cohesion. Being a caregiver educator or having experience with children is a plus and should be highlighted in the application.



Requirements

Education and Experience:
Bachelors/Masters Degree in Architecture or Landscape Architecture
Licensure preferred
Excellence in AutoCAD Rhino and Adobe Suite (portfolio required)
815 years of work experience particularly in project and team management
Experience working with diverse populations in culturally competent settings
Excellent interpersonal intercultural and mixed age communication skills
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Organizing preparing materials and running engagement events with children and adults
Designing play spaces via hand sketches Adobe Suite AutoCAD and Rhino
Preparing presentations to client and community groups
Researching precedents and best practices in play design and manufacturing
Developing construction documents and project detailing
Supporting bid and construction administration process with site visits and communications
Managing projects with scheduling filing communications billing and reports
Visiting sites (as needed) to document existing conditions construction process and final punch lists/safety audits
