Responsibilities of Surgical Services Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

• Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures ensuring that all necessary equipment instruments and supplies are sterile and readily available.
• Assist surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures by passing instruments holding retractors and anticipating their needs.
• Maintain a sterile field throughout the surgical procedure adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
• Assist with patient positioning and draping to ensure optimal exposure for the surgical team.
• Handle specimens obtained during surgery labeling and transporting them to the laboratory as required.
• Operate surgical equipment and machinery safely and effectively including but not limited to suction devices electrosurgical units and sterilizers.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to maintain a safe and efficient operating room environment addressing any concerns or issues promptly.
• Assist with patient transfer to and from the operating room ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process.
• Participate in the cleaning disinfection and restocking of operating rooms following surgical procedures.
• Adhere to all hospital policies procedures and regulatory guidelines including those related to patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Requirements for Surgical Services Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited surgical technology program preferred.
• Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Operating Room Technician (CORT) required.
• Prior experience working as a surgical technician in a hospital or surgical center setting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures instruments and equipment.
• Ability to maintain composure and work effectively in a fastpaced highpressure environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with members of the surgical team.
• Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions precisely.
• Physical stamina and dexterity to stand for extended periods lift and move heavy objects and perform repetitive tasks.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings weekends and holidays as needed.
