Platform Engineer-GitHub

Basic Qualifications & Key experiences:

• Experience working as an Engineer/Architect with sound knowledge of GitHub platform and products preferred.
• Experience in a Product/Platform Owner or similar role preferred.
• Strong analytical skills essential.
• Knowledge of backlog management tools e.g. Jira advantageous.
• Experience eliciting and breaking down needs into actionable user stories.
• Selfdriven autonomous and outcome focused.
• Ability to own prioritise and manage product backlog.
• Comfortable and effective at conveying complex technical challenges into easy to consume explanations for a nontechnical audience.
• Team player capable of building high performing collaborative and ownershipdriven teams in a highly dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

Strategic & Operational

• Ensuring our use of GitHub and the suite of associated products is standardised to industry best practice.
• Organising how we have set our repos up including naming conventions and tagging to improve reporting and visibility across our estate.
• Setting clean up path and activities to bring repos in line with expected standards and continuing to maintain these standards partnering with engineering teams across the organisation.
• Ensuring we keep our platform clean working across our enterprise to clean up unused repos and ensure that every repo in our enterprise is being leveraged.
• Work across Engineering and our vendor partners to identify areas of friction and work with the Platform Engineering teams to plan automation activities.
• Automate everything mindset looking at opportunities to remove load from the management of the platform to ensure we keep things in compliance with minimal effort.
• Partner with account teams across our key platforms to ensure we are bringing the latest relevant product improvements into our ecosystem.
• Partner with TechOps to ensure the base level validation and support remains up to date to ensure compliance of the platform.
• Educate the organisation on standards and good practices including leveraging golden paths where appropriate to ensure guidelines are adhered to.
• Access management strategy to ensure repos remain secure and access to them is efficient.
• Partner with process teams to ensure GitHub processes are in line with other platforms including Service Now to help ensure the endtoend process from request to retirement of a repo is sound.
• Manage roadmaps backlogs and make visible to the organisation to show working improvements and value.
• Ability to drive things independently to and outcome and demonstrate value back.
• Configure capabilities we have and build business cases where there are opportunities to enable additional features that enable our secure reliable efficient direction.
