Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director and the Deputy Director the selected candidate will provide support to the Labor Department which is responsible for grievance and charge handling as well as discipline for all employees.
Coordinate with the departments and facilities to obtain discovery.
Investigate charges grievances and possible discipline.
Negotiate with internal agencies
Manage a docket of nearly 100 disciplinary actions for a major case.
Coordinate with Attorneys to ensure that they are prepared for hearings regarding the major case including the enlargement of exhibits delivering documents/exhibits and arranging for witness appearances.
Process authorizations to obtain medical records.
As time permits be available for litigation paralegal duties such as:
Research and analyze collective bargaining agreements and sources such as statutes recorded judicial decisions legal articles treaties constitutions and legal codes to prepare legal documents such as briefs pleadings or appeals etc. for use by attorney.
Draft routine legal documents for review and use by Labor Relations and the Law Department.
Compile and prepare draft discovery and request for information responses.
Categorize and interpret data; review and analyze reports responses and records produced by opposing counsel.
Coordinate requests by multiple parties involved in hearings and litigation by way of consistent communication with stakeholders involved.
Qualifications:
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
Bachelor s degree (or rising Senior) from an accredited college or university; a paralegal certification from an ABA approved program; or in the alternative at least two years of experience.
Applicants must meet all performance and attendance standards and have completed all probationary periods. (Internal requirement only)
