Head Gardener

Our client is seeking an Experienced Head Gardener to help maintain their private garden in County Limerick Ireland. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Landscapes manager and various contractors.

The private gardens consists of substantial gardens a long herbaceous garden a vegetable garden a kitchen/herb garden a long avenue with mature trees large manmade lake with manicured lawns and mature planting.

Job Specifications

Proven track record in Amenity Horticulture including experience in the maintenance of the kitchen gardens herbaceous beds seasonal planters hedging/topiary and formal gardens.

Propagation of nursery stock seed germination and growing for annual displays and veg garden.

Experience in the tree maintenance & identification

Develop annual work plans and work schedules for the gardens team.

Budgetary planning in liaison with the Landscaping Manager / General Manager

Performance management and supervision of garden team including identifying training and development needs.

Good organizational skills and team leadership skills. Managing a team of 4 people which will grow to 8 over the Summer season.

Contribute to the recruitment and retention of garden staff.

Ensure all works are completed in a safe manner in accordance with H&S protocola key requirement for all works.

Operation and maintenance of garden machinery tools equipment & vehicles including hoist.

A driving licence spray license and manual handling are desirable.

Qualification

The ideal candidate should at a minimum have a relevant amenity horticulture qualification to include a QQI Level 6 Certificate or UK equivalent qualification.
