Assistant Accountant

Exeter Science Park

Role: Full timeor parttime (minimum 30 hours per week).

Location: Exeter Devon Office based with some work from home flexibility.

Salary: Circa 30000 per annum (depending on experience) 8% Pension salary sacrifice opportunities 28 days annual leave BH (FTE) funding of professional memberships and study support packages where applicable discounted food & other benefits.

The role:

Are you ready to take your accounting career to the next level Were on the hunt for a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Accountant to help us drive financial excellence. Youll play a key part in the team helping our Head of Finance to maintain financial records produce high quality reports/analysis and support our strategic decisions.

Main responsibilities:

  • Maintaining the financial records including updating ledgers journals and being the first point of contact for finance queries. Youll be recording transactions and making sure everything is in shape for monthend and yearend closings.
  • Administer our sales ledger purchase ledger and credit control with finesse. Invoices expenses payments youll handle it all accurately and swiftly.
  • Join us in creating budgets and forecasts that guide our future. We need your analytical skills to dissect actual performance against budgets and provide insights.
  • Craft compelling financial statements and reports that paint a clear picture of our financial health.
  • Youll play a key role in ensuring our financial reports meet all the regulatory requirements and our VAT returns are complete.
  • Youll provide insights that will lead to increased accuracy efficiency and cost savings.
  • Youll work closely with crossfunctional teams to align financial goals and provide support whenever needed.

What experience and skills youll need:

  • Previous experience in a finance/accounting or data analysis environment.
  • An understanding of accounting principles financial statements and processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey financial information and collaborate effectively.
  • Strong analytical abilities to interpret financial data identify trends and provide valuable insights.
  • Excellent MS Office skills particularly in Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to accurately maintain financial records reconcile accounts and manage financial transactions.
  • Experience using software for data analysis
  • Ability to manage accounts payable and receivable processes including invoice processing and payment reconciliation.
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports.
  • Awareness of UK financial regulations and tax compliance.

Desirable Skills

  • A degree in Accounting Finance or a related field.
  • Fully qualified AAT or actively pursuing professional accounting qualifications (e.g. ACCA CIMA or a willingness to gain relevant qualifications).
  • Experience using accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks Sage Xero).
  • Previous experience in a related industry or science park environment providing insights into specific financial dynamics.
  • Familiarity with project accounting principles and experience tracking financials for projects and grants.
  • Experience participating in financial audits and liaising with auditors.
