Principal Professional Land Surveyor (PPLS)
GovFirstis assisting our client with recruiting a Full-time, Direct Hire Principal Professional Land Surveyor (PPLS). This position reports to the headquarters in South Plainfield, NJ, while frequently working out of the Newfoundland, NJ office. Our client is a medium-sized, fast-growing consulting engineering and construction management firm with large programs in the public sector and enterprise markets.
What you will do
The PLS will report directly to the firms Managing Partners. Assistant Project Managers and Project Managers report directly to the PLS. The PLS leads the hiring, discharging, promotion, demotion, and disciplining of personnel in the Survey department. Specific fields include: Boundary & Topography Surveys, ALTA/ACSM, Land Title Surveys, As-Built Surveys, Riparian Surveys, Route Surveys, Monitoring Surveys, Construction Layout and Stakeout, Subdivisions, Legal Metes and Bounds Descriptions.
Responsibilities:
- Supervision of field and office staff
- Planning the continued development of the group
- Proposal writing
- Developing, monitoring, and maintaining project estimates and budgets
- Client contact
- Invoice preparation
- Development of survey drawings, reports, and deliverables
- Determining project goals and tasks
- Serving as liaison between office and field survey crew staff on projects
- Supervising the maintenance, quality, and filing of all information provided by the survey crews at the conclusion of each project assignment.
- Perform or supervise a variety of different survey functions, including data reduction, construction calculations, boundary determinations and the preparation of legal descriptions.
- Perform or oversee the creation of plats, plot plans, and real property surveys.
- Provide professional seal on all plats surveys and legal descriptions as necessary.
- Providing training to field personnel on surveying techniques
- Other tasks as may be requested of you.
Requirements:
- Supervision of field and office staff
- Bachelors Degree in land surveying or related field
- A minimum of 10 years of experience practicing professional land survey including organizing, maintaining and supervising field survey crews.
- Current Professional Licensed Surveyor (PLS) in New York and New Jersey
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation or similar applications for data processing, analysis, and mapping.
- Excellent people management skills
- Strong time management and communication skills
- Ability to see projects through to completion
- Some travel
- Undergo a background check (required

Prior experience at trade shows and conferences.
