The Health Education, Engagement, and Promotion department is a section within Patient Experience responsible for the strategic development and execution of patient education programs and services across the Health Care enterprise (ambulatory and inpatient) and within the community. Staff provide high quality and cost-effective assistance to patrons, patients, and clinical teams through consultation, project management, consulting, and technical expertise in education. Team members have expertise in behavior change, adult learning, group process theory, health literacy, and cultural competency techniques and their applications.

The Health Librarian plays an essential role within Health Education, Engagement, and Promotion and the broader Patient Experience Team. The librarian provides scientifically-based medical information and psychosocial support resources to help people make informed decisions about their health and health care. Health Librarians support Health Care patients, family caregivers, staff, and individuals in the broader community through in-person and phone-based consults and programming. By providing 1:1 consultations and engaging individuals in educational programming, a Health Librarian helps individuals lead healthier lives as they advance through treatment and/or their disease progresses.

The Health Librarian position may evolve based on the needs of the organization and community. These positions require the individual to exercise discretion and independent judgement.
