Houston Landscapes Ltd. is seeking Carpenter (NOC 7271) for its location in North Vancouver, BC. Its a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent position, $28.85/hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis. Overtime compensation is based on the current BC Employment Standards Act (1.5 times the regular wage paid if the daily hours exceed 8 hours or the weekly hours exceed 40 hours).
We offer an employee benefit plan that includes health benefits available after 6 months with the company. Two weeks of paid vacation each year.
We currently have two positions available.
Location of employment: Vancouver Mainland
Job duties:
Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plan to prepare landscape project layout and determine dimensions and materials required;
Construct decks, garden walls, walkways, stairs, fountains and waterfalls, retaining walls and BBQ stations;
Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures;
Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue;
Assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials;
Measure, cut, or shape wood and other materials;
Measure and mark cutting lines on materials using ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge;
Install, repair, and/or renovate structures and fixtures using carpenter's hand and power tools;
Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment;
Instruct and direct labourers and any construction helpers;
Complete daily paperwork tracking job time and material costs;
Responsible for hardscape and softscape landscape construction.
Requirements:
Must have completed high school;
Must have a valid drivers license and clean driving history;
Must have at least three years of work experience as a Carpenter or combination of experience and education;
Manual dexterity is a must;
The position is physically demanding;
Must be able to work under minimum supervision;
Must have an attention to details;
Must be able to work under pressure of tight deadlines; at heights, in confined, noisy, and/or dusty spaces;
Must be able to handle heavy loads
Must have excellent problem solving, decision making, job task planning and organizing skills;
Must be willing to work in all weather conditions.
Must be able to speak, read and write in English.
