BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The Field Support Unit (FSU) supports the breadth of WFPs operations particularly in emergencies by identifying logistics issues and implementing solutions when field resources and capacity are limited. FSUs operational support focuses on operational partnerships training innovations and normative guidance. FSU is the primary coordination point between the Logistics service in Global HQ and Country Offices (CYs) streamlining logistics-related emergency preparedness and response activities. Furthermore FSU oversees the Las Palmas hubs role as a transshipment and staging area for Global Commodity Management Facility (GCMF) food commodities destined primarily for northwest African countries as well as the Caribbean and Central and South America. Lastly FSU manages global milling and logistics contracts based in Tü support to the field is coordinated via FSUs four pillars:

  • Logistics operations support

  • Logistics training and staff development

  • Logistics innovations and tools

  • Logistics normative guidance

DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct desk research and support data analysis including the preparation of summaries and insights to contribute to longer-term supply chain projects and analyses and help identify potential solutions to operational challenges.

  • Assist in the preparation and periodic revision of Concept of Operations (CONOPS) and preparedness plans ensuring they remain accurate and up to date.

  • Support the development review and maintenance of logistics normative guidance in close collaboration with Global Headquarters field operations and technical focal points.

  • Contribute to logistics projects and day-to-day operational activities by following standard processes supporting the efficient delivery of food assistance through various supply chain mechanisms.

  • Assist in building and maintaining effective working relationships across Global HQ and field Supply Chain teams to facilitate knowledge sharing strengthen capacity and promote coordinated and cost-efficient operations.

  • Support the preparation of documents such as presentations briefing notes and information packs for FSU activities and field operations.

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to FSU activities including organizing meetings workshops and events.

  • Contribute to the development of training materials and support activities related to capacity-building initiatives and staff deployments.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

  • Contribute to the effective implementation of WFP logistics processes by providing timely and appropriate support to field operations.

  • Support the development of clear concise and well-structured analyses mappings and reports enabling logistics teams and management to make informed decisions based on accurate and timely information.

  • Assist in the systematic monitoring and documentation of supply chain performance helping to ensure operations are tracked evaluated and continuously improved.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme from a recognized university.

Experience: Previous experience or exposure to supply chain and logistics activities is an advantage.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency in the MS Office suite particularly Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong research and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated interest or basic knowledge in supply chain and logistics performance analysis is an asset.

Languages: Fluency (level C) in English is required. Knowledge of additional WFP official or working languages is an asset.
