JOB DETAILS
As a Field Service Engineer you will be responsible for the installation commissioning maintenance and repair of industrial metal additive manufacturing systems across the DACH region.
Whilst the role is primarily focused on metal additive manufacturing technologies occasional support may be required across selected SLA platforms within the installed customer base.
Working directly with customers in aerospace medical industrial and automotive manufacturing you will act as the primary technical contact for troubleshooting preventative maintenance machine upgrades and system optimisation activities.
This is a highly customer-facing position requiring extensive travel throughout Germany Austria and Switzerland with occasional support required in Poland and the United States.
Extensive product and technical training will be provided offering the opportunity to work with some of the most advanced additive manufacturing technologies available on the market today.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Install commission and validate industrial additive manufacturing systems at customer sites
Diagnose and resolve electrical electromechanical and system-level faults
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities
Troubleshoot issues relating to lasers optics motion systems sensors electronics and peripheral equipment
Carry out system inspections and performance checks using diagnostic and measurement equipment
Use tools such as multimeters oscilloscopes laser power meters and other diagnostic equipment
Read and interpret electrical schematics P&IDs technical documentation and service manuals
Support machine upgrades modifications and system improvements
Deliver customer training and provide technical guidance on system operation and best practices
Accurately document service activities and technical findings within CRM and reporting systems
Escalate complex technical issues and work closely with engineering and product support teams
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health safety and quality standards
Build strong customer relationships through professional communication and technical expertise
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer Service Engineer Service Technician or similar customer-facing technical role
Strong electrical fault-finding and electromechanical troubleshooting experience
Proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills within industrial equipment environments
Experience installing commissioning maintaining and repairing complex machinery
Experience working on industrial machinery machine tools laser systems semiconductor equipment packaging machinery printing systems or additive manufacturing equipment
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation
Experience using diagnostic and measurement equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes
Strong customer-facing communication skills
Comfortable working independently and managing travel schedules
Fluent German and professional English language skills
Full driving licence
Comfortable with extensive travel (80%) and regular overnight stays
QUALIFICATIONS
Completed apprenticeship vocational qualification or degree in Electrical Engineering Electronics Mechatronics or a related discipline
Qualifications such as Elektroniker für Betriebstechnik Elektroniker für Geräte und Systeme Elektroniker für Automatisierungstechnik Industrieelektriker or Mechatroniker highly desirable
HIGHLY DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
Experience with metal additive manufacturing technologies including LPBF SLM DMLS DED EBM or similar processes
Previous experience supporting industrial 3D printing equipment
Experience working with laser-based systems optics galvanometers or precision motion systems
Knowledge of vacuum systems inert gas systems or industrial process equipment
Experience within aerospace medical device or other highly regulated manufacturing environments
Exposure to SLA technology would be advantageous but is not essential
Familiarity with CRM systems and service reporting tools
