Role description:
Are you a motivated student eager to gain hands-on experience in geotechnical engineering Join our CCIL-certified laboratory in Concord as a Geotechnical/Material Lab Co-op Student for a 4 month Co-op in Fall 2026. In this role you will support laboratory and field testing activities critical to foundation design construction projects and site development all under the guidance of experienced staff.
Youll have the opportunity to learn industry standards gain exposure to laboratory and field procedures and contribute to real-world projects while supporting our project engineers and technical teams.
Role accountabilities:
- Assist laboratory staff with standard testing of soils aggregates and asphalt including sample preparation and equipment setup.
- Support field teams in conducting in-situ testing and soil sampling at project sites.
- Observe and assist with borehole drilling and field density/moisture content testing under supervision.
- Help maintain clean and calibrate laboratory and field testing equipment.
- Record and organize test results and observations using lab notebooks and digital forms.
- Follow all safety protocols and participate in safety and training sessions.
- Prepare summary data reports and contribute to project documentation as needed.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians to ensure quality assurance and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Qualifications & Experience:
- Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering Geotechnical Engineering or related college/university program
- Related laboratory or field coursework is an asset
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word) and interest in learning industry-specific software (e.g. AutoCAD gINT)
- Eager to learn and work as part of a collaborative team and strong organizational and communication skills
