The Opportunity

As a Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) at PRI you will assist in the planning execution and analysis of a variety of geotechnical engineering projects. Working closely with experienced Professional Engineers and technical staff you will gain hands-on experience in site investigations laboratory testing engineering analysis and report preparation.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills while contributing to projects involving foundations earthworks slope stability assessments and geotechnical investigations across a range of sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and coordinating field investigations including borehole drilling in-situ testing and groundwater monitoring.
  • Conduct and document field testing while ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Support laboratory testing programs for soil and rock samples and review test results.
  • Process and interpret geotechnical data to develop subsurface profiles and engineering recommendations.
  • Prepare draft geotechnical reports figures tables and supporting calculations.
  • Perform routine geotechnical analyses including bearing capacity settlement and slope stability assessments under supervision.
  • Maintain project records databases and technical documentation.
  • Participate in construction monitoring site inspections and instrumentation programs.
  • Collaborate with environmental civil and engineering teams on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Ensure adherence to company quality safety and environmental standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Geological Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Registered as an EIT or eligible for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Previous co-op internship or professional experience in geotechnical engineering is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with field investigation techniques soil and rock classification and geotechnical laboratory testing.
  • Experience with geotechnical software CAD or GIS platforms is an asset.
  • Strong analytical organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions and travel to project sites as required.
  • Strong commitment to safety professionalism and continuous learning.
