Role Overview

Durwest is hiring a Carpenter to support our site construction teams in delivering high-quality residential and commercial building projects across Victoria and Vancouver Island. This role is central to the structural craftsmanship and hands-on execution that define the Durwest Building Experience.

As a Carpenter you will work closely with Superintendents Project Managers and fellow tradespeople to frame form and finish structures to the highest standard. Your work will directly shape the safety quality and pride that our clients and team members experience on every Durwest project.

Key Focus Areas

Carpentry Framing

  • Read and interpret blueprints drawings and specifications to plan layout and construction sequencing.
  • Frame walls floors roofs and other structural components for residential and commercial builds.
  • Install doors windows stairs and millwork to specification and finish standard.

Formwork Concrete

  • Build erect and strip concrete formwork for foundations walls columns and slabs.
  • Ensure formwork is plumb level and properly braced prior to concrete placement.
  • Collaborate with concrete crews to support pours and finishing operations.


Site Safety Quality Control

  • Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment in compliance with BC OHS regulations and Durwest safety standards.
  • Perform daily inspections of tools equipment and work areas; report hazards promptly.
  • Support and mentor apprentice carpenters modeling Durwests standards of quality and professionalism.


Collaboration Communication

  • Coordinate with other trades (electrical plumbing HVAC) to sequence work efficiently and avoid conflicts.
  • Communicate progress issues and material needs clearly to the Site Superintendent.
  • Contribute to a positive respectful site culture that reflects Durwests values of precision collaboration and care.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of carpentry experience including residential or commercial framing formwork and finishing work on construction sites.
  • Working knowledge of BC Building Code requirements construction drawings and standard carpentry. techniques including wood framing and concrete formwork.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints shop drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing site conditions and priorities.
  • Commitment to worksite safety; current knowledge of BC OHS regulations and safe work practices.
  • Completion of a Carpentry apprenticeship program or equivalent trade experience preferred.


Considered an asset:

    • Experience with engineered wood products (LVL I-joists glulam) and prefabricated building systems.
    • Red Seal Carpenter certification or Journeyperson status.
