PositionPurpose

TheWangun Lidj Case Practitioner is responsible for delivering culturally strongchild-centred case management to Aboriginal children and young people involvedin the Aboriginal Children in Aboriginal Care (ACAC) program.

Operatingwithin the pre-authorisation (as if) phase under Section 18 of the ChildrenYouth and Families Act 2005 the role supports the transition of statutorydecision-making to Aboriginal community control.

Thepractitioner is responsible for planning implementing and reviewing caseworkmaking informed decisions and contributing to improved safety permanency andcultural outcomes for children.

The roleactively embeds Aboriginal cultural authority kinship systems and connectionto Country in all aspects of practice.

KeySelection Criteria

Demonstrate an understanding of andcommitment to Aboriginal Culture with the ability to liaise with and supportthe local community.

Ability to engage with Aboriginalchildren and families to promote safety and culture.

Understanding of childhood developmentwhen assessing safety and wellbeing.

Experience with case planning abilityto engage families in setting goals and tasks to address concerns.

Highly developed skills and commitmentto supervision and performance management.

Demonstrated capacity to workautonomously to develop implement & manage effective case plans formultiple children or young people simultaneously.

Demonstrated understanding of trauma& its impact on the development & behaviour of children.

Understanding of the complex care needsof children & young people living in Out of Home Care.

Expert knowledge and abilityadminister the Children Youth and Families Act 2005 and the Child WellbeingAct 2005 particularly relating to Aboriginal children and families.

Experience or willingness to undertakecourt work needed to ensure childrens safety and wellbeing.

Ability to prepare high-qualityreports maintain accurate records & use computer-based technologies foradministrative practices.

Ability to adapt rapidly to changingcircumstances & organisational requirements.

Qualifications and RegistrationsRequirement (Essential or Desirable).

Valid Victorian drivers licence ESSENTIAL

Strong understanding of Child Youthand Families Act 2015 and the Best Interest Principles Framework ESSENTIAL

A satisfactory Working with ChildrenCheck and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL

A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islanderbackground DESIRABLE

Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGACrequirements ESSENTIAL

A recognised Diploma of Community Services workor similar qualification which is studied over a minimum of 2 academic years offull-time study (or part-time equivalent) and includes:

A) a primary focus on childdevelopment human behaviour family dynamics and/or impacts of trauma.

B) and supervised fieldworkplacements (ideally completed within the child and family welfare sector) andat least one unit of study in case management case work practice orcounselling.

OR

A recognised Social Work degree ora similar welfare or behavioural related degree which includes a primary focuson child development human behaviour family dynamics and/or impacts oftrauma; and preferably a practical component such as counselling or case workpractices. ESSENTIAL
