Pre-Assessment Officer (DFAT)

The opportunity

External Security Vetting Services is a specialised function in EY dedicated to delivering high-quality vetting services to Government clients helping identify manage and mitigate external personnel security risks. With increasing demand and ambitious growth plans we are strengthening our team to ensure the continued delivery of efficient high-quality outcomes.

The Pre-Assessment Officer role is critical to the success of the Vetting Team enabling the efficient and seamless delivery of vetting services by conducting initial checks and analysis on security clearance applications to ensure they are complete accurate and ready for the next stage of vetting.

This role position based in Canberra - Ngambri. This is a part time role 15 - 21 hours per week ( flexible on days). Please speak with us about potential options.

Your key responsibilities:

The Pre-Assessment Officer will be responsible for enabling smooth and efficient vetting services by supporting a range of activities including:

  • Application review:Examine security clearance application forms and supporting documents for completeness accuracy and inconsistencies.
  • Data validation:Verify personal employment financial and background information against supporting documents.
  • Risk identification:Flag potential issues (e.g. gaps anomalies adverse information) that may require deeper investigation.
  • Information gathering:Liaise with external applicants (and third parties) to request additional details or clarification where needed.
  • Case preparation:Organise and prepare files for vetting analysts ensuring the case complies with the clearance level requirements set out in the Protective Security Policy Framework
  • Tracking and reporting: Maintain accurate tracking of cases and ensure data integrity within systems
  • Support additional vetting processes: support allocations and mailbox management

This role requires the ability to work both independently and collaboratively manage competing priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced high-demand environment.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Attention to Detail:Strong accuracy and focus in managing information processes and documentation
  • Communication:Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with internal stakeholders and external applicants
  • Organisation & Time Management:Proven ability to prioritise tasks manage deadlines and maintain workflow discipline
  • Technology Proficiency:Confidence using Microsoft Office suite and navigating multiple systems simultaneously
  • Judgement & Discretion:Ability to manage confidential information appropriately
  • Security Clearance:Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance

Ideally youll also have the skills and attributes below but dont worry if you dont tick all the boxes. Were interested in your aptitude attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Previous experience working with State or Federal Government preferably within Defence or security-related environments
  • Familiarity with case management systems workflow tools or operational coordination roles
