Description

We currently have an opportunity for a Trades Assistant to join our Health and Education team at Southbank TAFE. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager youll help deliver high-quality outcomes that support our essential services.

  • The role is Monday to Friday no Weekend work!!!!

  • Monthly RDOs providing additional work-life balance.

  • Tools supplied by Downer

  • Public transport (train & buses) close by

What Youll Do (key responsibilities)

This role offers a broad scope with key responsibilities including:

  • Perform both preventative and reactive maintenance tasks on buildings structures furniture and equipment.

  • General handyman duties; grounds; waste disposal and assisting where required the qualified trades persons on site.

  • Conduct scheduled inspections and servicing of equipment fittings and infrastructure as required.

  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Respond promptly to urgent requests as required and directed.

  • Maintain logs of completed work inspections and materials used.

  • Safely operate tools machinery and maintenance equipment.

What Youll Bring (experience required)

Education & Qualification

  • Current Open Drivers License

  • Current First Aid CPR and LV qualifications

  • Elevated work platform (desirable)

  • Forklift High risk works license (desirable)

  • Welding - Basic (desirable)

  • Positive Notice Blue Card for Child Related Employment (or willingness to obtain)

Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of general repairs / maintenance tools and materials

  • Previous experience in maintenance or handyman roles (Commercial/Industrial/Healthcare setting preferred)

  • Painting sanding tiling concreting (preferred)

  • Proven experience using hand tools and ability to weld

  • General hand with sound understanding of carpentry electrical and plumbing basics

  • Experience with time management and prioritisation of workload

  • Proven experience communicating to employees all levels customers and suppliers

  • Previous experience within a facilities management environment (desirable)

Skills & Knowledge

  • Current knowledge of work health and safety and risk management principles and practices
  • Knowledge of current industry standards relevant to trades services operations
  • Highly developed customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of service quality improvement continuous improvement and organisational development
  • Ability to comprehend written and verbal communication follow policies procedures and instructions
  • Ability to quote / estimate cost of works
  • Ability to work as part of a team and individually by developing good working relationships with team members and enjoys the company of others.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure
