Join Ruahs dedicated Family and Domestic Violence team and help support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to achieve safety healing and independence. Working within a culturally safe crisis accommodation service youll provide practical and emotional support to women escaping violence while contributing to a program that delivers crisis accommodation case management counselling and recovery-focused support. About the Role
We are seeking 2 x Casual Support Workers to join our Family and Domestic Violence team providing support within a culturally safe crisis accommodation service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women escaping family and domestic violence.
This program provides:
- Crisis accommodation
- Case management support
- Emotional Support Therapy (EST)
- Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) counselling
As a Support Worker you will play a vital frontline role supporting women during times of crisis. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team you will provide practical and emotional support promote safety and wellbeing and assist women to access services and achieve their goals.
To maintain a culturally safe and trauma-informed environment for women experiencing family and domestic violence this position is open to women applicants only. This requirement is permitted under Section 27 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
This is a 24/7 service and successful applicants must be available to work shifts that include:
- Weekend shifts
- Evening shifts
- Overnight (sleep) shifts
- Public holidays as required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide trauma-informed person-centred support to women accessing the service.
- Support clients with daily living activities appointments and community engagement.
- Work collaboratively with case managers counsellors and other support services.
- Maintain accurate client records and case notes.
- Promote culturally safe and respectful practice.
- Assist in maintaining a safe welcoming and supportive accommodation environment.
- Respond appropriately to client needs incidents and crises.
- Contribute positively to a collaborative team culture aligned with Ruahs values.
What were looking for
You will be a compassionate and resilient professional who is passionate about supporting women affected by family and domestic violence.
Essential
- Certificate III in Community Services or a related field relevant experience and/or lived experience.
- Experience working with vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
- Ability to build trusting professional relationships with clients.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated emotional maturity resilience and sound judgement.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and client management systems.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice and cultural safety.
- Knowledge of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities.
- Willingness to work evenings nights and weekends on a casual roster.
Highly Regarded
- Experience in family and domestic violence services.
- Experience working in residential or crisis accommodation settings.
- Knowledge of homelessness mental health and AOD support services.
