About the Role

As a Solicitor IV with Legal Aid NSW in Broken Hill you will provide high-quality legal advice advocacy and representation to legally aided and disadvantaged clients across a broad range of matters including complex and sensitive casework. You will play a key role in delivering access to justice for regional and remote communities ensuring services are provided in accordance with Legal Aid NSW policies professional standards and best practice addition to managing a varied legal practice you will mentor supervise and support junior solicitors and legal staff contributing to a collaborative high-performing team dedicated to achieving positive outcomes for clients.

Broken Hill is one of NSWs most remote cities and the first to be heritage listed. With a population of around 17000 and servicing a number of local areas Broken Hill is the hub for many smaller local communities. Located approximately 1114km from Sydney 500km from Adelaide and 300km from Mildura and serviced by Regional Express Airlines and Qantas Broken Hill is also only 48km from the South Australian Border. The Broken Hill office of Legal Aid NSW services Broken Hill Wilcannia Wentworth and surrounding areas. The office has a large number of fulltime staff as well as welcoming a range of visiting lawyers from all over NSW delivering local services including Legal Aid specialist services such as Family Law Services for Aboriginal Communities and Civil Law Services for Aboriginal Communities.

Essential Requirements

  • Hold Australian or NZ citizenship Australian Permanent Residency

  • Undertake relevant pre-employment checks such as Working with Children Check Criminal Record Check and Conduct Service Check

  • Be admitted or eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW

  • Provide a current NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us

  • Have a valid drivers licence and be willing to travel to regional and metropolitan offices as required (including overnight travel)
