About the Portfolio

The Operations portfolio provides daily support for RMIT students academics and staff. We contribute to operational efficiency and help ensure our people financial and infrastructure needs are met. The portfolio comprises Property Services Group People Information Technology Services Governance and Legal Finance and Assurance Enterprise Projects and Business Performance Data and Analytics.

The Role

Research Infrastructure is a signature initiative for Horizon 2 of RMITs Knowledge with Action strategy. The first substantial activity of this initiative is the Digital Research Infrastructure (DRI) Platform and creation of a dedicated cross-discipline DRI team between Research and Innovation and Information Technology Services (ITS). This team directly supports the needs of researchers to deliver scalable research solutions in Data Compute Software Capability and Emerging Technology.

The role of Senior Research Software Engineer is responsible for providing strategic management and maintenance of RMIT research software delivery platforms applying expertise to constantly improve the digital research experience for researchers. The role ensures that researchers have reliable access to existing software as well as timely processing of new installs and procurement.

The role requires a combination of deep technical expertise and the interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders from researchers and academics across disciplines to professional staff and external partners. The Senior Research Compute Specialist works closely within a cross-disciplinary environment translating complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences and building collaborative relationships to deliver outcomes that meet the diverse needs of researchers and advance the universitys broader research mission.

About You:

To be successful in this position youll have

• Experience in managing software within a research and development environment

• Experience in large scale services and feature rollouts across enterprises.

• Demonstrated understanding of licensing and compliance requirements for research use cases

• Develop and maintain documentation (technical designs and process documentation).

• Experience in advanced scripting for large scale automation and testing

• Experience with software packaging and deployment within a Windows ecosystem

• Experience with deployment of software within an Mac or Linux ecosystem

• Experience as an end user of research computing through study or previous employment
