Job Summary

Minor Hotels Australasia have a rare opportunity for a highly driven Senior Legal Counsel to join Minor Hotels in-house legal team.

Based in our Brisbane CBD office and reporting to the Head of Legal this senior role provides expert legal guidance in a fast-paced national environment. This opportunity is ideal for a legal professional with property or hospitality experience looking to advance their career with a global hotel group.

You will work closely with the Head of Legal to shape legal strategy mentor the legal team and handle complex legal matters. If youre eager to make a significant impact within a rapidly growing organisation we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing comprehensive legal advice recommendations and support to key internal stakeholders including the Owners Department Property Division (70 properties) Leadership Team Executive Committee Head of Legal and Commercial Departments.
  • Managing legal matters by offering expert advice preparing and reviewing contracts and other legal documentation.
  • Keeping the Head of Legal fully informed of significant legal or compliance issues arising from ongoing work.
  • Drafting negotiating and reviewing corporate sponsorship software-related and other commercial agreements including hotel management and operational contracts.
  • Drafting reviewing and negotiating Hotel Management Agreements (HMAs) property leases and associated documentation.
  • Supporting the legal team in managing agreements related to the acquisition or divestment of hotels including purchase and sale agreements.
  • Preparing renewing and assigning MLR Agreements leases HMAs and franchise agreements as required.
  • Providing expert advice on General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance and privacy legislation.

Qualifications :

To be successful in this role you will require the following: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Law or Law/Commerce.
  • Admission to practice as a solicitor in Queensland.
  • At least 6 years of post-admission experience with demonstrated expertise in Property Law or Hotel Law highly regarded.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with executives managers staff external counsel and regulatory bodies in a professional and collaborative manner.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and exceptional phone and computer skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational abilities to manage competing priorities work under pressure and meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.
