ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Senior Lawyer with extensive migration law expertise to provide complex legal advice representation casework assistance and advocacy across a range of migration matters. Reporting to the Principal Lawyer and as a senior member of the team this role will provide leadership mentoring and supervision to lawyers restricted lawyers and paralegals fostering a collaborative and high-performing legal practice.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Lead and empower a high-performing team to deliver high-quality client-centred services fostering a supportive learning-focused environment built on collaboration and mutual respect.
• Supervise the provision of expert legal advice on complex humanitarian and migration law matters promoting excellence accountability and ethical practice.
• Oversee the Intake and Triage function on a rotational basis including reviewing triage matters assessing new client intake and monitoring client assessment processes.
• Participate in regular file review meetings provide caseload and service delivery reports to the Principal Lawyer.
• Contribute to the strategic development of legal services by identifying emerging client and community legal needs ensuring compliance with organisational policies funding requirements and professional standards.
• Develop and promote community legal education initiatives.

Essential Criteria

• Undergraduate degree in Law.
• At least 5 years of post-admission experience.
• Unrestricted practising certificate (or ability to obtain prior to commencement).
• Demonstrated expertise in humanitarian migration or refugee law.
• Proven experience in leading teams and managing complex caseloads.
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice.
• Ability to think strategically influence effectively and act with courage under pressure.
