We currently have Senior Lawyer (Grade 9/10) opportunities availablein the Enforcement Branch in the Department of Customer Service (DCS)Legal Division working for NSW Fair Trading in regulatory prosecutions civilenforcement and administrative reviews.

The Department of Customer Service Legal team supports arange of regulators such as NSW Fair Trading SafeWork NSW State InsuranceRegulatory Authority and Building Commission NSW.

Primarily providing legal services to NSW Fair Trading youwill be working in an interesting and fast paced regulatory environmentjoining a passionate and motivated group of professionals providingindependent professional legal advice and legal services on a broad range ofmatters.

The person in this role will need to:

Provide clear concise legal advice and legal representationacross a range of areas involving prosecutions administrative reviews andlitigation to ensure effective administration of and compliance with law by theorganisation.

Undertake litigation and brief counsel where appropriate toensure the provision of effective legal representation on behalf of theorganisation.

Analyse and interpret legislation and evidence; draftdocuments including advice court pleadings statement of facts andsubmissions briefing notes and correspondence to facilitate appropriate legaloutcomes.

Liaise with clients and other stakeholders on the legalaspects of breaches of legislation and on litigation of matters before thecourts or tribunals and assist in developing and providing guidance or trainingmaterial to the business to ensure compliance with legislativeand regulatoryrequirements.

About You:

You are admitted as a legal practitioner of the SupremeCourt of New South Wales and hold or are eligible to hold a current practisingcertificate as a solicitor.

You are a motivated and effective communicator withgreat initiative; a client focused team player who can adapt to change andindependently manage competing priorities and deadlines in a dynamicenvironment.

You have a proven ability to work collaboratively andflexibly with diverse stakeholders and other lawyers to support optimaldelivery outcomes. You are a client focused team player who can adapt to changeand independently manage competing priorities and deadlines in a dynamicenvironment.

You will have strong analytical ability analytical lateralthinking and problem-solving skills including an ability to apply legalprinciples in a practical way.

You provide quality independent legal advice and canconfidently manage legal risk prioritising time sensitive matters handlinglarge volumes of work and managing deadlines. You thrive in a fast paced anddynamic environment.

You will also hold a Bachelor of Laws or equivalentdegree qualification and have 3-5 years relevant post qualification experienceas a litigator in one or more of the following areas in either privatein-house corporate or government practice:

• Regulatory prosecutions
• Criminal law
• Consumer protection law
• Building & construction law
• Work Health and Safety law
• Administrative law and NSW Court and tribunal practice and procedure
