The Project

The ACCIONA-led consortium known as the Alkimos Seawater Alliance will design build operate and maintain the future Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant in Perth for ten years. The Stage 1 design and construct project is scheduled to deliver drinking water in 2028 as part of an overall Water Corporation program of works valued at AU$2.8 billion

Alkimos Water Precinct - will help the region manage the combination of declining rainfall and population growth. Since 1970 winter rainfall in southwest Western Australia has decreased by about 20 per cent while Perths population - currently 2.12 million - is expected to reach 2.9 million by 2031 and 3.5 million by 2050 making it Australias third largest city and significantly increasing the demand for drinking water.

Were excited to be building this critical piece of infrastructure and to supply 50 billion litres of climate-resilient drinking water to the region.

About the opportunity:

The Senior Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for implementing and maintaining effective health safety and environmental systems to ensure safety is embedded as a core business value across the project. It will promote a strong culture of safety leadership accountability and awareness at all levels

of the workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate site HSE systems identifying hazards assessing and controlling risks and providing expert advice on incident prevention and occupational health.

  • Ensures all operations plant and equipment comply with relevant legislation standards and industry requirements while promoting environmental protection and safe work practices

  • Demonstrate the effective use of risk-related data facts patterns and trends and evaluate the uncertainties critical hazard points the scale of the risk its probability and impact

  • Identify and use the documentary evidence that would support a legal defence including documentation that may not be directly OHS/WHS-related

  • Educate and engage their co-workers and use the enhanced knowledge to improve and transform the business and its OHS/WHS culture

  • Lead a 360-degree review and consideration that makes a substantial difference in the way in which the OHS/WHS strategy is developed in line with the wider business strategy and its approach to overall delivery

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety or similar
  • 7 years experience in health and safety on major complex infrastructure projects
  • Experience in implementing Safety training programs
  • Proven knowledge of a risk and incident system
  • Working knowledge of HS&E management systems and site implementation
  • Experience with hazard identification risk assessments audits and incident investigations
  • Ability to identify risks and recommend effective corrective actions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills across site teams
